Chapter 4: Coincidence
Ohno couldn’t stop thinking about Nino. He wanted to help the other man but he couldn’t come up with any solution for Nino’s problem. Nino didn’t agree to go to a doctor for a check-up, he didn’t want to talk about the past… Wasn’t it better to let him be like this for the rest of his life? Those scars on Nino’s chest kept reminding him that Nino’s past life seemed to have nothing like happiness, so if Nino didn’t want to remember, it was just fine. But looking Nino lost in his thoughts sometimes worried him. Surely, no one could ever live without knowing his past, his true-self, his real identity.
He sighed as he took out the newspaper. The convenient store where he worked was empty at this time, so Ohno had some time for himself. He stared at the paper, the words kept dancing in front of Ohno but nothing entered his mind since he was spacing out again. His mind wandered to Nino, to his smile, and Ohno wondered what Nino was doing now.
Suddenly there was something caught his eyes. He looked up in surprise when he saw someone resembled Nino from the corner of his eyes. From here he could see the man’s back, his face was half hidden but Ohno still found the man strangely like Nino. The other man was entering an opulent car, he didn’t bother himself to look at his surrounding. He didn’t look like he cared either. Ohno blinked when the car door slammed shut, but he could still see the other man’s face through the window of the door. Suddenly the man turned around, and Ohno found himself staring straightly into Nino’s face. Their eyes met for a moment before Nino broke their eyes contact - as if he didn’t see him - and the car started to run along the street. Ohno couldn’t believe his eyes - what was Nino doing there? And Nino was wearing a black suit - definitely not the one Ohno saw him with this morning. And Nino was strangely cold. The look he gave Ohno - an unconcerned yet emotionless look - sent a shiver down Ohno’s spine. He couldn’t feel more confused as he stared at the spot Nino had been standing a minute before, his brain stopped functioning before he could get the situation.
------
“Satoshi? Huh, no, he’s here. Why?” Jun answered his call in a rushed voice, as if he was in a hurry. Ohno immediately felt relief spread over his body.
“Can I talk to him?” Ohno asked, feeling his heart beating faster all of sudden.
“Huh?” Jun stopped for a moment as if he was taken aback, before he continued “Of course. Here.”
He heard some noises at the background before it was Nino’s voice at the other line. He sounded worried.
“Hai? Ohno-san?”
“Nino?” Ohno felt himself let out another sigh “You’re… still there?”
“Hai, yes.” Nino blinked in confusion “Of course I’m here.”
“You… haven’t gone anywhere since this morning?” Ohno knew it was a strange question, but before he could stop himself, he was already asking.
“No…” Nino frowned “What’s wrong?”
“Un…” Ohno’s brows furrowed. Then he had just mistaken it, after all. It wasn’t Nino. He sighed in relief. Maybe it was the light that he had thought it was Nino. It was someone else, after all.
But he must admit that the strange man was so like Nino that it made his heart stop at that moment.
“No, nothing…” Ohno replied with a confused Nino “I was just… thinking about you so…”
Nino didn’t reply, but Ohno could almost picture Nino’s blushing face, and he couldn’t help but smiled fondly at the image. Nino was so cute when he was embarrassed, and knowing this, Ohno couldn’t miss a chance to make the other blushed helplessly like that.
“Then, I’ll see you this afternoon.” Ohno chuckled as he heard Nino mumbled something at the other line, and he took it as “hai”. “Bye, Nino.”

“Sho-chan! I’m going out for some groceries. Do you need anything?” Aiba called as he opened the shop’s door.
“We need more milk,” Sho answered from behind the counter, his eyes didn’t leave the papers as he was busy working on the accounting “And don’t forget toilet paper!”
“Hai, hai,” Aiba laughed at Sho’s troubled face when he was mumbling something under his breath, his brows ceased as he was concentrating in the numbers again.
It was summer already. It was totally a coincident that he had met Sho - the person he had liked right at the first place. Aiba couldn’t quite understand what had brought them together. The first time they met, Sho was Ohno’s friend and Aiba was Jun’s, so they coincidentally met at a meeting. It was a surprise to know Ohno had such an smart friend like that. Sho at first showed no interest in him, but Aiba had won his heart over a year, when finally he had made Sho confess first and then they became couple until now. Unlike Jun and Ohno, Aiba thought. Jun definitely had some feelings for the older man, but Ohno seemed not notice at all. Aiba wanted to help them, but anytime he brought up the topic, Jun always stopped him before he was able to say anything. Ohno was just oblivious as ever as he didn’t see the disappointment in Aiba’s eyes and the love in Jun’s.
Drowning in his thought, Aiba had stopped at his favourite convenient store. It was where Ohno was working - it happened to be really near their shop so Aiba sometimes stopped by and chatted with Ohno until Ohno’s boss got angry and kicked him out of the door.
When he stepped on the zebra crossing, Aiba didn’t notice the traffic light turning to red as he continued walking without seeing a car was running toward him with high speed. Aiba could only see the car brake hardly, heard a shriek when the tide slide on the road and the car stopped right beside him. Aiba’s heart raced inside his chest when the thought of what could have happened if the car didn’t stop on time finally hit him. He stared at the car, it was running too fast, what wrong with this driver? He blinked as he heard someone cursing and then the engine started again before the car slowly moved. When the window at the backseat crossed his eyes, Aiba gasped as he saw someone was staring back at him with glacial yet annoyed eyes.
It was Nino.
Aiba was about to call him, but the car had gained its speed and ran along the road as if it had never stopped, and in a second Nino had disappeared too. Thousands of questions popped up in Aiba’s mind. Wasn’t Nino a friend of Ohno? But Nino looked at Aiba like they were strangers, with an arched eyebrow and scornful look. It made Aiba feel like he had done something wrong the last time he met Nino. Confused as he remembered how kind and gentle Nino was the last time they met, Aiba entered the shop and spotted Ohno at the counter. He approached the older man - who seemed doze off - and patted his shoulder.
“Nino was here to visit you?” He asked.
“Huh? No,” Ohno opened his eyes with a start and looked around confusedly “Where is he?”
“I saw him outside.” Aiba frowned “And I thought he came here to meet you.”
“No,” Ohno repeated in confusion “He’s at Jun’s shop right now.”
“What? No way!” Aiba laughed at Ohno “You’re sleeping, and maybe that’s why he left and being angry like that!”
“Nino was angry?” Ohno asked worriedly “But why didn’t he wake me up if he was here?”
“I don’t know” Aiba shrugged “You should ask him later.”
“Well, yes,” Ohno nodded, but still somehow in perplex “I’ll ask him later.”
“You better do,” Aiba smiled “He looked like he didn’t realize me either. Don’t you get me involve in this quarrel too.”
“Why?” Ohno frowned “He didn’t tell me he would come. I’d definitely wait for him if he had told me…”
Aiba stared at Ohno’s pink cheeks as the idea popped up in his mind.
“What…? Don’t you tell me…” He grinned mischievously.
“I don’t tell you anything!” Ohno protested quickly, but his blushed face was the best evidence Aiba needed. He covered his face in embarrassment “Oh, please…”
“Ohchan,” Aiba smirked “You like Nino?”
“What…” Ohno mumbled, but he didn’t deny it. Aiba’s eyes widened as he thought about Jun and everything Jun had been trying since then. It was somehow unfair for the younger man.
“But you guys have just met…”
“So?” Ohno looked up in confusion “Is there anything wrong if I, well, have some feelings for him?”
“No, nothing is wrong, I just wonder…” Aiba shook his head. After all, he couldn’t reveal Jun’s secret like this. If there was someone who had to tell Ohno about Jun’s love, it was Jun himself. “But does Nino like you back?”
“I don’t know,” Ohno admitted honestly “Actually, he… doesn’t look like he hates it when I… care about him, so I think everything is still good until now…”
“So you have a chance.” Aiba concluded with a understanding smile “Ganbatte ne, Ohchan!!”
“Oh, I don’t know how to try…” Ohno said, but he couldn’t hide a shy grin. Aiba just patted his shoulder encouragingly. Although thoughts whirled inside Aiba mind as he didn’t know how he could help Jun if everything kept going on like this.
