A crazy thing I was thinking about just now: the Transatlantic tunnel.
Its a train that would (in theory) cut travel time from new york to london to just under 1 hour.
To be feasible, the train would have to travel at about 20x faster then the current fastest trains in the world. To do this the tunnel would need to be in a vacuum state (to reduce resistance) and the train would be to be of mag-lev type (like those ones in japan).
Concept designs show it as a circular tri 'track' tunnel with service conduits and maintenance accesses. By track I mean 'guide rails'; the train wouldn't actually touch the rails but hover magnetically an inch or so above them. Each seat would act independently to combat g forces and each carriage would need to be pressurized (like little space ships whizzing through a tunnel:))
Now when I say tunnel, I mean tube; cause it wouldn't be sitting on the bottom of the atlantic or under ground (pressure would be too high, especially for something containing a vacuum space). It would be 'floating' on sea anchors (100,000 of them) about 150ft below the surface (just low enough to avoid ships). It would take at least 2 decades to build... and it would have windows.
That's fucking crazy.
And by crazy I mean cool.
Awesome.
9th wonder of the world material... well maybe 10th.
At least as crazy as the tokyo sky city (I'll save that rant for another day)
I really think they'll make it one day. I just hope I'm around to see it! Gets me all enthused!
Am I just the dullest person ever?
