I continue to be impressed with Ambleside Online's literature choices.

One of their books for second grade is The Burgess Animal Book for Children, which we did as a bedtime story instead of spread out week-by-week as they suggest. Definitely not something I would have picked up on my own, but Leif absolutely adored it. We finished it last night, and he cried about being done. Now he wants to read another of those books. There are more, but personally, I'm not quite ready for that yet.

Thing is, the "story" is basically a nature guide with a bit of narrative thrown in. This is not enthralling to me. I tune it out while I'm reading it. I'm SO ready to move on to something else.

But apparently, it's totally enthralling to a seven year old. And presumably more than once, seeing as it made the list.
