The meeting hasn't happened yet, but I was able to find the VP and do the "I'm not sure what is about to happen in this meeting, but I'd like to thank you for coming down and doing it this in person" thing, followed by "Again, I'm not sure I know what's about to happen BUT if I'm right, I know there is no way to guarantee where the ball is going to bounce yet, and if a spot ever opens up, I'd appreciate it if you think of me"
and he shook my head and said said that he really appreciated me saying that and that he definitely *would* keep me in mind. :)
So it's definitely happening.
Then I went to my manager (who tells me a lot) and told her that story - and she confirmed that yes, we ARE being laid off. But the good news is that it's effective the end of June/July 1st. (so that our benefits extend into July)
I'm sorry to hear that the ball is in motion at all. Good, I guess, that the VP was willing to spit words before the meeting itself. Is there really no better way of handling a business other than to have a head honcho hover like a friendly ghost getting ready to become a poltergeist at a set time that keeps getting rescheduled?
The meeting is at 1:30.
I'll update later. But I think we know what this means.
