Hello there, and welcome to your first "Work Room".

For those who are new - or generally missed it in the FAQs - the Work Room is a space to bounce ideas and talk about writing. Yours. Other peoples. Give and take advice.

It's your space. I'm sure you can come up with something to do with it.

Every once in awhile, I'll bring in a "Mentor" to Tim ( Read more... )

Ay! what to do? Fiction? Or non? I have lots of experience with church-going in my past, so I have lots to draw from that could be creatively express in either manner.

I think, for this week, even though the topic ISN'T "Introductions," it's important to remember that your entry WILL serve as your introduction to everyone else. You want to write something that will introduce them to what they can expect from you this season.

So, think about what you want to achieve in Idol this season as a writer. What are your goals? And then write something that will help other people understand who you are and where you're coming from in this season of Idol. I think answering that will help you decide what type of writing will suit this entry best!

Great point! I honestly expected the topic to be some synonym of "Introduction." That's what I get for trying to predict something in Idol, eh? Thanks, Tea!!

Well, it could be a synonym for introduction if you turn it around in the light. :-D

No.

But it is one no matter whether there will be real voting people out or not. In the sense that we start back on writing... for Idol :)

This makes a lot of sense. Although, of course, my experience growing up in a private, religious school.... the first thing that came to mind was of course non fiction...but I'm better at fiction hmmmmm

There is no reason why you can't do both, as long as you can fit it within the constraints of a single entry. *nudge, nudge, wink, wink*

Well, I'm just here to help you along! It is something you can do if you're interested in doing it and I've seen it done successfully many times in Idol.

I probably can do it if I can figure out how to do it

I was thinking about this issue myself. Even though it's not "Introduction" I need to figure out how to introduce myself within the context of the topic. Even though I've got some ideas already, figuring out my voice and how to explore it is the biggest challenge.

Fortunately the topic lends itself well to where I am in my life right now.

Thanks for mentoring us in these opening weeks. :)
