Today is one of those days you wish didn't have to happen.
But that is ultimately the nature of the game, you have to say goodbye to people that under normal circumstances you really don't want to lose.
That was going to be the case regardless of who it was that was going home.
But today it is a little more so.
Because today we are saying goodbye to
alexpgp
and
zia_narratora
Wait. Did you read that correctly? Shouldn't that be notbatman???
*nods* It would have been.
But there are the ways of the world and there are the ways of this thing we call LJ Idol - and things do not always work out the way we think they will.
The ways of the world say that sometimes life comes up, and time is short, and sometimes you just have to grab on tight to the things that are most important, and concentrate your attention there.
The ways of Idol say that if someone drops out while a poll is still open, they have sacrificed themselves.
She could have easily waited. But she wanted her leaving the competition to mean something. She wanted to give back, to give someone else a chance to fight on - and the recipient of that generosity was notbatman.
There is a world of difference between the personal styles of alexpgp and zia_narratora, what they most have in common though is the huge impressions they have left on this competition and everyone lucky enough to read them - as both writers and as people. They are going to be greatly missed from this final stretch, but hopefully not from the home game.
