I am of two minds regarding the fact of supporting the owners of LJ through ad clicks on public entries. Therefore I might link this week's entry to my DW account and post it here only friends only.
It is...complicated. The friends I have in Russia whom I met on LJ but am now communicating with through other means tell me that on LJ they can only access entries posted in Russia. Even using VPNs or other proxies they can't get through, for more than a week now.
Things are really really getting hard for those who want to oppose this horrible regime or even just get neutral information.

So, basically we are just creating ad money for the bank owning LJ without the possibility for even one single person in Russia to access writing other than the poisoned vomit from their own propaganda fountains.

Do we really want that?
I have always been faithful to LJ but over the last months mainly because I wanted to keep up this neutral voice in the Russian cyberspace. But if they are cut out from our writing and we are just talking among ourselves, making money for a horrible apparatus, few as it might be....we really do not have any excuse other than our own comfort and pretend ignorance of the facts.

I'd actually NOT heard that. (them not having access to anything other than in Russian). Based on how busy I've been, that doesn't surprise me. But still...That does change things. I'll have to think about this, and reach out to some people to see how widespread that is.

it is not "in Russian" but posted from Russia, and maybe other Russia-friendly countries, I don't know that. The language apparently is not an issue, only the IP

Whoa, interesting. If that is how this is working, that is a shame. Maybe I need to move over to the DW as well. Its a shame that its so easy for the infrastructure in Russia to block according to IP origin, but I guess that is part of the weakness of any of these old simple open source platforms. Not that the new social medias are any better in that respect. It's just that this one is still a bit of a money-maker for unknown interests. Ugh.
