Green Room - Week 4 - Day 10

Mar 28, 2022 13:12

So how about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock???

I don't really care all that much about the act itself, but it sure seems to get a LOT of people talking about all of the underlying issues - and I'm all about finding ways to get people talking!

So, how about that slap??? Another thing that people should be talking about is these entries! Read more... )

I have read a lot about that event, but am having a hard time feeling much about it. There is still a war in Ukraine in which people are dying from lack of food in Mariupol. There is still the matter of the wife of a sitting supreme court justice trying to overturn the last election, that seems pretty important. I am a fun-sucker. Pardon me as I suck all the fun out of the room. *makes vacuum noises* Can you tell I'm having a hard time feeling light-hearted today? Feel free to throw soft things at me, it's just a bad day.

There are A LOT of awesome entries this week. A few I really liked (just a few, and in alphabetical order), are bleodswean, murielle, and stellinasusan. I'm into the vengeful nature stories this week!

Oh, absolutely there are a LOT of really important, life or death situations happening right now. Which is why it's always so surprising when something like this just takes up the oxygen in the room. I guess it's because it's NOT life or death. Which instantly makes everyone an expert, with no threat of real life consequence.

That makes sense. I certainly don't want to pontificate on war or treason. But I am more anxious over those! And yes, I am over here holding all the fun. Will be here all week.

I've been wondering where all the fun went! Now at least I know.

Honestly, I've been reading a lot of celebrity gossip right now because the regular news is so horrible and the dumpster fire is still burning. I spent all day today on the slap heard 'round the world and I have a thought:

If Will Smith hadn't slapped Chris Rock, that lame joke would have been forgotten in like five minutes because it was so lame. But he had to make a Big Thing out of it and so here we are. And also the reason he wasn't escorted out immediately is because they knew he was going to win Best Actor even though it totally should have gone to Denzel Washington because The Tragedy of Macbeth is ten times the movie that King Richard was, is, or ever will be.

And yes, I'm saying that because Macbeth is the only movie nominated for anything that I saw this year. Mind-blowingly good. Which reminds me, I need to write a personal post about my theory about Ross.

Ironically, "Macbeth" is the one movie I *didn't * see this year, even though I love Shakespeare and Denzel, because I couldnt find a streaming service that had it.

It's on Apple+ but maybe they'll release it to other services since it got a high-profile nomination. At least that's how it would work out in a perfect universe.

If you only saw one how do you compare it to the others to assess which one should have won anything? Does Denzel deserve the prize for best acting because you chose to see the movie?
I'd maybe give a point to marketing for that...

I’m done with reading and voting. I didn’t watch The Slap Heard around the World, only heard about it on the radio. Blech.

As far as this week’s favorite entries, shout outs go to Hwango, Murielle, and Tonithegreat.

Best of luck, everyone!

I blush and I squee!! Thank you. I was cleaning house and feeling content like I had done everything I needed to do today and a good amount of things I wanted to, and then all of a sudden I realized "I'm waaaaaaay behind on reading and commenting for idol! Doh!" Still a good day. But about to be with way more late night reading and commenting in it. I hope.

I read, I voted, and I didn't see the slap, although I certainly saw it on repeat (and repeat, and repeat). As someone who has alopecia, I understand how aggravating something like Chris Rock's comments were, but did they deserve the slap and the language? Probably not.

Since I voted for everyone, I don't have a horse in this race.

Just finished voting. Got that over with. busy, busy work week.

I don't watch awards shows. no interest for me.

I don't agree with Will slapping Chris but I can understand it. Making fun of someone with a medical condition is not funny and that is his wife. My husband said that he would have done the same thing in Will's place. That is all I have to say about that. Like others before me, there are many more serious and important things going on right now.
