Aw, Gary!! Wow!

"Thank you" just seems too small a thing, but thank you truly for this. I know it's rare for you to pull back the curtain of silent impartiality, so this has floored me. It means a lot to me that my pieces could move you. And that they could impact the future of Idol! Whoa! It's too early in the morning for me to properly tackle these emotions!

I believe in my writing and my viewpoint, but it has felt like a lucky fluke to make it this far. That's how it feels as a bit of an outlier, fringe kind of contestant, but I recognize that it has taken the consistent support of my fellow competitors to get me here, and that merits saying "thank you" a thousand more times. Thank you.

It's truly remarkable to be a part of this. I went back and counted-I wrote 18 original songs this season. 18! That's crazy to me! That's way more than any previous 11-month period in my life. But yes, returning to prose felt like a radical rediscovery of self. It has given me so much to reflect upon and unpack. Thanks for this crucible that has made me a better artist, and thanks to those who kept wanting to see more from me. It's been a sensational experience.

I know I've already said this, but I just knew that you would end up in the top, probably from the point of our intersection. There was just something about you that told me you were going to be there, and so I spent quite a bit of time practicing what I was going to say about you in my finale speech to not make you look too good. ;-)

Once we got to the point where you started picking up steam, I knew it even more, and even though I had dadi pegged for the win for a while, you really gave me pause, and there was a not insignificant chunk of this weekend where I was watching the polls and I still thought, 'He's going to come from nowhere in the last hour and blast the other two out of the water.'

In a way, I'm glad you didn't, because the title of "first male regular season winner" is still up for grabs. Which means that hopefully we'll get to do this all over again and maybe I'll get to duke it out with you at the end next time. :-)

18 original songs is a crazy accomplishment, and you know that I have major respect for you managing to do that. And here's the thing about those 18 songs - not one of them was a dud. You have a really good opportunity to take the work you've done, go back and clean it up and produce it nicely, and have a really solid product there.

Hopefully our paths will cross again, but if not, good luck in your next steps; I know you'll find success in anything you put your mind to.

Thank you so much, Sean, for being the best moral support since our intersection -which you've no right to be, since you're a top tier adversary!! ;) In truth, I don't know how much duking out I've got left in me, but that's just how I feel one day out of Season 11. Who knows? I was hoping we would both end up in the finale together since our intersection, and I would relish just such an epic future showdown of camaraderie. So don't toss that finale speech yet!! :)
