There are polls happening right now
https://therealljidol.livejournal.com/1114039.html But since you can't see them, one of the two Idol contestants who love bees asked if we could have another poll. I decided to go ahead and put one up!
(I will say though that if I knew that I just needed to throw a twist at you to get you to comment, every week would be a twist! :D)
Poll ***
This weekend was amazing. Well, Friday night was amazing. The rest of the weekend was OK.
As you may know, The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band is my favorite live act. If you haven't heard them, I actually don't suggest that folks go check out their music. I suggest that you just go ahead and go to the show! Because you *might* like the album - but you might not.
This band is good enough that if you go in and see them without hearing a single note beforehand, you are going to walk out a fan. (Or at very least you will have had a great time!)
I've been going to see them since 2008 and over the years have friended them on various social media platforms. But even there, our conversations are mainly been one or two lines responding to online comments.
Last time I saw them though, after I did the usual "stop by the merch table to shake their hands, get some stuff signed and tell them it was a great show" - their tour manager and drummer both reached out to me on FB messenger to see if I was still around. I wasn't. I had seen them, and left.
Apparently they were hoping I was going to hang out after the show!
So this time around, I was prepared to hang out.
I had no idea what was going to happen.
It's worth noting that last year, they started up a fan page on Facebook. After the first day, they decided to make me a moderator. (Not an admin, I don't need any more actual responsibility!)
After the show (which was amazing) I went up to the merch table and had picked out a couple shirts. I was about to get something else when the tour manager told me that the band had something "really special" for me. I looked over and they were calling me over.
They wanted to thank me for all of my help. (Which again, I don't think I've done all that much) They gave me a signed test pressing of their album "Poor Until Payday". There are only 3 of these in existence. I am the only one to have one who *isn't* in the band!!!
I did manage to hold it together, but I was just so stunned.
When I walked back to the merch table, Cynthia was holding the shirts. I asked her how much it was, so I could repay her. "He wouldn't take my money".
Confused, I asked the tour manager how much I owed him - and he told me that my money "was no good". So I didn't end up getting the other thing I wanted, because they had already been more than generous with me and I didn't want to take advantage)
I met a lot of other fans that night - and we ended up going out with the band afterward, first to a bar (where we saw a massive fight in the parking lot. There must have been at least 40 people involved!) and then to IHOP.
They are just top-notched people, and extremely talented musicians.
and I'm just a guy who enjoys torturing you! :)
