On undying stupidity

So, what's up with that trend of immortal ageless people wanting to grow old and die?

WTF guys, seriously.

This rant was brought to you by Geass ep. 15, the Geass fandom, Anne Rice's vampires, and a whole bunch of immortals who can't enjoy life.

[Well, one can only hope that some immortal guy decides to show me the horrors and awfulness of ( Read more... )

Humans who become immortal develop the desire to die for the simple reason that the human kind isn't geared towards existing forever.

Live long enough, have enough things change around you to the point of being completely foriegn to your own formative years, see enough people around you wither away and die, and just get bloody bored, and the ennui will set in.

Hell, people get like that in the real world if too much of the above happens to them. It's just the human nature.

But also, I like to think that there would be at least ONE immortal who would like it. (And I like to think that this person wouldn't be the Big Bad Guy of the story, because that one is overused too XD)

I don't mean that they all have to, but some... But sometimes writing and plots make it seem like all the "good" immortals want to be humans and die and all of the "evil" immortals want to live forever and conquer the universe.

Everyone is different, some people don't really mind about other people dying (even those close to them), some people like to live to see new things and an unending life also means unending new things.
But well, I still have to meet an immortal person, so I wouldn't know, go weird existential ramble that makes no sense!

Even if they did at first, give them enough time and everyone will either get struck by ennui or boredom.

Good or evil is irrelevant, really; it's just the evil immortals behaving that way (in stories) because if there are immortals well you "need" evil ones. And they can't do their evil things if they want to shuffle off the mortal coil ...

... except in Exalted, where the Neverborn just want to finish dying (which they can't do because they're immortal), so they plan to destroy all of Creation and fall into the Void with it ;3

Some people want to always see new things, sure -- but after enough time, the act of seeing new things itself will no longer be a new thing. And wouldn't that be a downer?

NO I'M NOT. THIS THING JUST REMINDED ME OF SOMETHING THAT ALWAYS MADE ME GO O_o IN GENERAL PLOTS.

That's why the rant was "brought by". If it had been about geass in particular it would have said something like "OMG GEASS U SUX" like most of my particular rants xD

CC totally needs a hug and love. Srsly. Hugs and love solve ALL issues. Except when they don't xD

Yeah, but it's... the same. The message is basically that immortality is not all sunshine and puppies and humans were not made to endure it. Idk, I'd probably go crazy myself if I was immortal, also, booooring.

Hugs might be a bad idea, considering her issues. :( Let's just stick to the pizza.

See? That proves my point that we totally need immortal people to ask them. *gets killed*
And the point of the post was that I know the message, but that I'm a little bored of seeing the message on TV and books, is that such a bad thing xD?

Oh god, are you trying to say that TWOO WOOV won't fix everything? OMG HOW DARE YOU. HERETIC.
