No-confidence vote amusement

It's becoming clear that there are a bunch of closet political fiction writers over at the Globe and Mail, and it's frankly looking more like John Wells' "West Wing" than Aaron Sorkin's. This morning's second-tier headline: "MacKay pleaded with lover Stronach into wee hours". The article--i.e., NOT an editorial--also unironically and without ( Read more... )

I liked the fashion notes in that article. "The handsome, ruddy-cheeked 39-year-old wore an off-white work shirt layered over a dark T-shirt, his khaki pants tucked into orange rubber boots."

"She came back after midnight on Monday night ... She'd been at the Prime Minister's residence. I had no idea. . . ." he said softly. "I knew she'd been troubled and had a lot on her mind, but I didn't see this coming. I didn't see it coming."

See, if you made this stuff up, people would just laugh.

If you or I were to write a novel about the last two months on the Hill, our editor would shoot it back at us and tell us that it was too unrealistic. And yet, it seems it's not.

Makes me feel a little better about the occasional farfetched element in my actual fiction!

It was about ten years ago that I first saw a grammatical error on the front page of the Globe and Mail. I knew it was only a matter of time before things deteriorated completely. It seems we have arrived at a state of total abandonment of standards.

I'm Shocked and Appalled.
