[There was a rumor, amongst the members of Ganon's gang, that those who betrayed him became the testers for his new weapons. Simon had hoped never in his life to find out the truth behind the rumor.
But here he was, directly in the line of fire.
Perhaps two weeks was too soon to venture out again. Perhaps he should have seen the thugs coming, been prepared for the beating he took. Perhaps he should have become accustomed to broken bones. Perhaps Simon should have learned to play dead.
As he clutched his broken leg, huddled against the brick alley wall, Simon had no time for regret. He tasted blood in his mouth, and knew his body was slowly forming bruises all over. The steady drip of blood from his side was audible even over his staggered breathing. The thugs were quiet. He hoped, oh god he prayed, they were done with him.
But his prayers were unanswered as he was lifted by his hair from the ground. Crying out in pain, he felt something shoved into his mouth. He gagged, trying to spit it out. But the thug wouldn't allow it, pressing him, with his free hand, against the wall by his mouth. Simon choked, gagged, unable to breathe--he swallowed and whatever he'd been force fed went down. The thug freed him from his suffocating grasp and Simon coughed, almost vomiting, before it started.
It was the worst pain he'd ever felt in his entire life. His throat burned like he was actually on fire. His insides were melting, burning, the pain slowly spreading. The gasps of pain quickly turned to screams as the fire began to spread into his blood. It was so hot it was cold, burning and freezing all at the same time and--]
OH GOD MAKE IT STOP. MAKE IT STOP!
[He heard himself screaming, begging for relief, but it wasn't stopping. His screaming didn't quiet, the pain only getting worse. His face was wet with tears and blood.]
PLEASE! PLEASE!
[He heard them laughing. Cracking one eye open, barely able to see past the blinding white of the pain, he saw the thug tap him with his foot--but he couldn't feel it past the pain already devouring him.
A sick kind of smile passed over the thug as he leveled his handgun with Simon's forehead.
And all Simon could think was that it would be a welcome relief.]
