Boy I just love places that have fraudulent practices. Back over the summer I decided to do a quick check on my credit report and so I figured I would do it on the web.
I went to FreeCreditReport.com (I see advertiesments and they have been around for a while so I figure they are legit) they are a little bit legit. I sign up for it look at my credit report and then try to cancel the subscription... small problem... no where to cancel your account on the website, after looking through numerous pages of the "contact us" I finally find a number. I call it... offices are closed (it was the weekend)... so I try again on Monday finally get someone and ask to have my account canceled, they "cancel" it and go into some big spiel about something ( I couldnt really understand what the guy was saying since it was one of those Indian answering services) so after he is done the only comprehensible thing that I understand him saying is "Are you sure you want to do this?" in which I reply "Ummm yeah... I want to get rid of my account"
A few months pass and I look at my bank statement I see a charge from "CIC*Triple Advantage" for $12... and it gives a phone number next to the entry I am like WTF is this? So I give them a call and it winds up being the FreeCreditReport.com place and thier lovely Indian answering service. I go through the same spiel about wanting to cancel the account and they assure me that I authorized them to charge the $12 a month fee, which at that point I go bollistic on them and then the guy agrees to cancel my account... again... and then goes into the speil again of "Please stay with us and for a charge of only $12 a month we will give you free email updates etc..." I laughed at the guy and said "Cancel my account".
So today I check my bank statement and yet again another entry from CIC*Triple Advantage for $12. I called and did the same thing. If it is not canceled after this I am filing a complaing with the FTC and the NM Attourny General. Long story short... dont ever sign up at freecreditreport.com.
