OK, so it has been a long time and I foresee this post getting really long. So for those that don't want the whole of it, I'll make links for you. :)
I really need to invent a teleporter that doesn't involve destroying original at point a and creating a copy at point b. That would make things much easier. Although, getting a little help on that front soon. We've finally found a company that will give us DSL out here in the boonies. It's about the best that we can get. TimeWarner Cable claims that they don't have cable out here (they buried their fiber optic cables in our front yard a couple of summers ago the lying bastards!) Yay for better internet than dial-up!!
Last year, the fiance and I picked up a used Saturn because we needed a second vehicle since we live so far apart right now. The car served us well, but Memorial Day it decided to try throwing a rod on his way from Sturgeon Bay to Appleton. Fortunately he could get off the highway in Green Bay without it dying. We got it to the mechanic's without any towing involved so that was good. Estimate for a new engine was more money than we can afford right now, but after looking around here it was less than what we'd pay for a similiar used car. But it is all fixed now! And pretty close to the estimate! Just have to pick it up.
As far as the fiance goes, we haven't set a date yet. It is still the noncommittal "eventually". However, we are getting closer as I have one semester of classes and then one semester of student teaching. Yay! I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel and I'm getting very anxious about it. Will I find a job? Will I like what I do? Do I really want to teach? All questions that right now I do not know the answers for, and honestly, that is kind of scary. I've also realized that I don't think I was ready to leave the safety of college when I graduated from Tech. Now, I think I am ready to leave college, if for no other reason than I do not feel the connections to UWGB and the people here that I do to MTU and the people I met there.
I've been writing again... More stories than poetry really lately. If anyone is at all interested, you can look
Lori's Gallery. The most recent stuff is the beginning of a story starting with "The Proposal". Your best bet is to look at the posted dates to get them in the right order. I only have one request, please leave comments for me. Tell me what you liked or didn't like. I want to get better. :) Without comments I can't do that though. So please leave feedback!
For the summer I'll be doing a lot of working at the factory second shift. Not awful, I kind of like the more laid back atmosphere. Now if I could just find a second shift teaching job.... Anyway, I'm also working part time for one of my professors doing GIS work. Basically, I'll be doing some of the GIS and a whole lot of teaching him how to do it. But, I should also get to help out with other parts of his research too and that should be fun since he is a geologist. :) Hooray for getting paid to play with rocks!
Didn't think I'd leave SCA out did you? I'm not making much progress in the fighting arena, but I am no longer eligible for most "novice" tourneys as of last Haire Affaire. I won the florentine tourney. Still not sure how, probably more "gimmick" than actual skill since I went out with sword and short axe, but a win is a win, right? Especially when I beat Roisin two out of the three times we faced each other florentine that day. Other than that though, not a whole lot of time for me to suit up during the school year or now that I'm done for the summer. I have however, started to look at some of my SCA goals and define them a bit more. Goes along with the light at the end of the school tunnel. :) And speaking of school, the student org fell apart. I just couldn't keep it going it seems and then when it came time to re-register (which they do in the spring down here toward the end of the semester also known as awful timing) I didn't get things taken care of. Therefore we got a rather pissy/annoyed/angry sounding email from Student Life saying we'd have to start all over again by creating an organization. Was hoping to get some advice from the faculty advisors (even asked them for it) on whether I should do the work to get it back going or if I should encourage everyone to join the other newer medieval interest club on campus. Haven't heard anything from either one... so as of the moment, we have no more official student SCA group.
Well, that's a pretty good sized update for 20 weeks, but it is still the short short version. :) Especially when you think that 20 weeks is like 5 months.... *hugs* Hopefully I'll be able to update a little more regularly now.
