Correction: We do not have a new dog

Gentle readers,

for the record we do not have a new dog. I am sorry that my previous post was confusing. I was trying to be witty and state that because Wombie's arthritis treatment has resulted in a change in her behaviour, it is as if we have a new dog. In fact we still have just one dog, good old Wombie, with her new vigerous ( Read more... )

Not that particular bread as such, she is not a Blue Heeler. She is part Kelpie and Kelpies are traditionally farm dogs. She is part kelpie, part lab, a little bit of shepheard and anything else you could imagine. She could very well have some Blue Heeler in her. Blue Heelers have a lot of natural white fur sprinkled throughout their coats. Her grey fur gives her a Blue Heeler look. If you think that she could be a Blue Heeler, and interpret the grey hair as her pedigree rather than her age, then she would look a lot younger. See the white patch on her chest? That is the only white fur that she had as a young dog, the rest is age. Her hair used to be all black when I got her (hang on, so was mine) and she looked more Kelpie and less like an Australian Cattle Dog.

I met a country bloke in the train who asked if she was a Kelpie cross. I said yes, and he said that where he came from, Kelpie crosses were so common as cattle/sheep dogs that is was like a breed of their own, the "Kelpie Cross". And he said that all looked just like Wombie.

As to her age, you flatter her! Thank you, do keep posting. Her age shows in her fur and her gate. You can't see her gate in a still photo but it has improved recently. Just days after her third arthritis shot someone else at the train station (yes, I do travel a lot on the train with the dog) guessed her age as 13 or 14! Before treatment she was thought to look about 16! She is in fact 15 and turns 16 in October.

BTW, the dog on my user icon is not Wombie.

Oh, she is quite an old dog. Thank you for the explanation. Do you have any other animals?
