your advice is sort

Please help, my sister adnarim_abroad and mother ogram are travelling in the US now. The origional plans were to go to New Orleans, but for obvious reasons that is being reconsidered. The question is, should they still go? I know that a lot of readers here are American and would have a greater knowledge of the situation than I do. (Though others can still vote and comment.) Would it be voyerastic tourism at its worst, or a grand show of support for the businesses that are starting up again. I know that just weeks after the Asian tsunami some areas were calling out for the tourists to return as tourism is their main income. Are there any businesses starting up again? Someone there may suddenly need the services of a midwife or classical musician - and they could help... The disaster was many months ago so things should be moving on. Is the area still a health hazard? Would the trip be foolhardy or very interesting, giving insight into the situation to Aussies back home where the news has moved on to other issues.

As well as voting, any comments would be appreciated, or post them on her blog. She didn't make the poll herself as she had limited time in the internet cafes while on the road. (or that's my story)
