RIP "Mr. Wizard" Don Herbert, Jury Duty and Bad Baseball

Jun 13, 2007 10:03

I flew out of the house this morning for the aforementioned jury duty stint only to get to the county magistrate's office out near the Lake Murray Dam to learn that there was "a development in the case" which excused me from jury duty and that they were done for the week (quite the long sentence there). Bob Saget!

On the way to work, Brent & George informed me via the b106 Morning Show that Don Herbert, aka Mr. Wizard, passed away. Most everyone around my age and older is familiar with Mr. Wizard from his show on Nickelodeon. I loved it and thoroughly enjoyed it, as it was great at making science fun and informative. It even gave me a science project idea or two back in the day. Mr. Herbert made being a wizard popular long before Harry Potter, and TRR mourns his passing. RIP, Mr. Wizard.

So now I'm at the office (actually, I've been here about a hour now) being a productive asset to the Phil drinking coffee and reading the NYT online. I came across a story about the Phillies and their approach of a ignominious milestone: their club's 10,000th loss. The Times being the Times, they included an informative graphic about where other clubs stack up in terms of losses. It contained two items of note: yes, my Pirates are on the list, confirming that we do truly suck. However, looky who's worse: the Braves!

Here's a big ol' "BITE ME" to them and their arrogant fans, who've tormented me since the NLCS in '91 and '92. You can stick your 14 consecutive division titles, which weren't even good enough to get you over .500 all-time. How bad must your franchise suck that you can accomplish that unparalleled feat and still have more losses than wins? Worse than the Pirates, who are better despite working on 15 consecutive losing seasons now. Get off me! Losers.

This might end up being a good day now.

baseball, rip, stay classy, pittsburgh pirates
