Now that the worst of the cold weather seems to be over for now, and my dad's computer is back up and running with its shiny new power supply, I have returned my computer to its place in the alcove, and removed the guest account.
Dad's been kind of irate lately. Dad and my sister and I never actually bothered to sit down and divvy up the household chores or anything. My sister and I mostly just fend for ourselves, doing things on an as-needed sort of basis. Dad is having a problem with this arrangement, because it often necessitates his fending for himself. He has never had to do this before, and he Hates it. He has a problem with actually having to Ask people to do things. If he were to say to me, "Oh no, I'm down to my second to last bath towel. Could you wash a load of towels, please?" I would absolutely wash some towels for him. The problem is that he doesn't think he should have to ask. He was spoiled by Mom for 35 years, so now he thinks we should automatically know when he's low on clean towels, and wash some without him having to say anything. This will probably never happen. I'm entirely too oblivious to automatically know when others need something, unless they specifically tell me about it. The logical way to solve this issue is for us to sit down together and actually schedule who will be responsible for doing which chores and when. Unfortunately, Dad isn't logical and is unlikely to go for such a reasonable solution, and probably will continue to yell at me and my sister until we either move out in disgust, hire a maid, or master telepathy.
I played Jade Empire (the PC version) for a while this evening, and it's pretty entertaining. I've heard it's a rather short game, giving you maybe 20 hours of fun, if you do all the side quests, but I figure I can always replay it with a different type of character. Specialize in a different kind of martial art, wield a different weapon, play a different alignment, etc. I just need it to keep me entertained until Amazon finally sends me the Titan Quest expansion that I pre-ordered.
Yesterday at work, I was required to spend a good chunk of my afternoon watching a movie called, "The Secret". It turned out to be a sort of documentary on the alleged coolness of positive thinking. It claims that if you focus your thoughts and feelings on something, the universe will find a way to give you whatever you were focused on. I suppose positive thinking is a good thing, but I'm not sure I believe the business about the universe being God, and God being the universe, and the universe behaving like a genie in response to our thoughts. One thing I've learned for certain about God in my 34 years, is that He is definitely Not a genie, and isn't in the habit of granting wishes.
