Hope To Haiti - Day Five Recap

Jun 25, 2011 00:53

Friday was quite a day in Hope To Haiti news! I will do us all a favor, and place most of this entry under an LJ  cut!

This morning, Laura had a pic of the community center site ready for us: http://twitpic.com/5fz0x9  Things are progressing nicely, after the extended period of rain the area experienced last week.

Cathy Hay faced the day with this thought: "Ready for one more go at construction - but have we learnt to work slowly enough" (via @CathyHay)  Julie Yip soon followed with this tweet: "Another sunny day in Haiti. Yesterday we hit up the beach, where I saw a wee crab. Today is more construction, yay!"

Excitement was high today, anticipating the arrival of Misha. And most of this excitement was from those of us not in Haiti!

The @jacmelchildren Twitter announced: "@mishacollins arrived in Haiti and is enroute to children's center."

This tweet would soon be followed by a video posted by Misha. No idea what is said, but Misha decided to steer for a bit:

Random Acts decided to welcome Misha to Jacmel by giving away some of our Bobby Singer style trucker caps: twitpic.com/5ewlvi
The first five people to correctly guess the name of Bobby Singer's dog, seen once in the episode "Devil's Trap" (Season 1, Ep. 22) won.
His name was Rumsfeld, and, we're left to guess, Meg is the cause of his demise. Here's his SupernaturalWiki page.

Nikki has been an avid pic tweeter, and we love her for it. She shared a snapshot of the crew painting:  yfrog.com/ki8duyj

Random Acts supporters were busy raising money for the Hope To Haiti project, which you may still do for a few more days.  We were touched by Tomoko, who tweeted that she cancelled her birthday treats and donated the money to the project instead.  Another ardent supporter held a #Supernaturalparty on Twitter, raffling off prizes.  One tweet that captures the spirit of Random Acts called for an official retweet.  @Faerie_Firefly said: "It doesn't even have to be a donation! Kindness can be shown in so many different ways." We're so moved by all your support and enthusiasm!

We refreshed our collective memory with a posting of The Art Department's Philip Schneider interview:  bit.ly/jQYOQX

Our reading may have been cut short when Misha tweeted a video, introducing a very special host from Jacmel. His name is Jean-Baptiste!   I will let Misha handle the introductions:

There's also this pic of Misha, wearing a zebra head. This man has impeccable style! yfrog.com/h8im7atj

Tonight's poncho giveaway on Facebook required supporters to rewrite a Supernatural quote to fit the Random Acts mission.  There were so many excellent submissioins!  Winners, make sure your mailing address is emailed to haiti@therandomact.org - Here are the ten winners and their modified quotes:

That was a loads of fun! Thank you all for your entries! These ponchos will be on the way to our winners: http://twitpic.com/5gdkqf

Since this was the day of  Misha's joining the Hope To Haiti journey, we tweeted his personal Crowdrise profile page and asked that those who can, please donate to the Hope To Haiti project through his profile. You may still do so here:  bit.ly/MshJcmL

Quite a day for the Hope To Haiti experience, Random Acts, Misha Collins, and, most importantly, the citizens and young people of Jacmel, Haiti.

Thank you again for reading.  Have a wonderful Saturday!
