(~not f-locked~ alert, to be linked on twitter.)

lemme distract myself from stressing out about my upcoming 2018 of music list~ by something straightforward!! review of tv shows i've watched in 2018, which includes new discoveries (🔀), continued watching (▶️), and rewatching (🔁). ✌️ rated by hearts, relatively to one another, not in general (so like, even a one heart show has some value to me). i've watched a few other shows, but i'm not listing them because i don't feel like i've watched enough of 'em.

better call saul 🇺🇸 (2015-now) ▶️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
He wasn't always Saul Goodman, ace attorney for chemist-turned-meth dealer Walter White. Six years before he begins to represent Albuquerque's most notorious criminal, Goodman is Jimmy McGill, a small-time attorney hustling to make a name for himself. He's a forceful champion for his low-income clients, an underdog whose morals and ambitions often clash. Jimmy works with private eye Mike Ehrmantraut, a former Philadelphia cop and recent transplant to the Southwest. Mike has a specialized skill set -- he's a "fixer" of sticky situations -- that Jimmy soon learns to appreciate.

listen, i will keep saying this!!!!! even if you didn't care for saul much or feel like a show centered around him wouldn't be to your liking... maybe it still won't be to your liking, lol, but those things applied to me and i dig this show very much a lot. (also i hear it's not necessary to have watched BrBa to enjoy it either!) specialty: torturing you with misery. mvp: KIM WEXLER. fave 2018 eps: 4x06 Piñata, 4x10 Winner.

crazy ex-girlfriend 🇺🇸 (2015-now) 🔀 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ½
Successful and driven, Rebecca Bunch seemingly has it all -- an upscale apartment in Manhattan and a partnership at a prestigious law firm -- but she feels like something is missing. After a chance meeting with a former romantic interest, Rebecca impulsively decides to give up her life in New York and relocate to West Covina, Calif., a Los Angeles suburb she hopes will be the perfect home base as she embarks on a quest for love, adventure and true happiness. Star Rachel Bloom also serves as an executive producer. but the superior summary is I WAS...

after i foolishly dropped it mid-pilot in 2015!!!!! i feel like it can be annoying talking about how perfect a show is, and hey, it's not, but it's very close to perfect for me. ;~; satirical yet earnest, (mostly) socially conscious, too real, and filled with bops. fave 2018 songs (at the mo'): Time to Seize the Day, No One Else is Singing My Song, Nothing Is Ever Anyone's Fault. fave 2018 ep: 4x08 I'm Not the Person I Used to Be

the fosters 🇺🇸 (2013-2018) ▶️ ❤️ ❤️ ½
Stef, a dedicated police officer, is in a relationship with Lena. The two have built a close-knit family with Stef's biological son, Brandon, and adopted twins, Mariana and Jesus. When Lena meets Callie -- hardened from being in and out of foster homes -- the couple welcome her into their home, thinking it is temporary. Callie's blunt commentary about the atypical family hits a nerve with the twins, who struggle with their own identities. Then the girl discovers a secret that could land Mariana in trouble. Brandon helps Callie navigate the social scene at high school, but she skips school to meet up with an old friend. Her behavior makes Stef and Lena second-guess their decision to help her.

i still haven't watched the final special ep, FML. it might have been up to four hearts early in its run but it also might have been as low as one heart last season! like a few other shows on this list, i'd kept watching largely out of habit and because it's so queer (and also for callie adams foster). but i have to say the final season kind of redeemed it to me? might be just that i was in the mood for it, but what they did with stef and deep-rooted internalized homophobia hit me hard, so well done and maaaaybe i'll remember it fondly after all. favorite 2018 eps: 5x15 Mother's Day, 5x18 Just Say Yes.

the good place 🇺🇸 (2016-now) 🔀 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ½
When Eleanor Shellstrop finds herself in the afterlife, she's both relieved and surprised that she's made it into the Good Place. But it doesn't take long for Eleanor to realize she's there by mistake. She hides in plain sight from the Good Place's architect Michael and his all-knowing assistant Janet. Her seemingly perfect neighbors Tahani and Jianyu and open-hearted soul mate Chidi help her realize that it's never too late. With the help of her new friends -- and a few enemies -- Eleanor becomes determined to shed her old way of life in hopes of discovering a new one in the afterlife.

this is one of those shows where all i want to say is JUST WATCH IT IF YOU HAVEN'T. a show that truly keeps outdoing itself. fave 2018 ep: 3x09 Janet(s)

how to get away with murder 🇺🇸 (2014-now) ▶️ ❤️ ❤️
Annalise Keating (Oscar- and Tony-winning actress Viola Davis), a brilliant, charismatic and seductive professor of defense law, teaches a class called How to Get Away With Murder. Annalise, also a criminal defense attorney, selects a group of students -- the best and the brightest -- to assist with cases at her firm alongside her employees, the trustworthy and discreet Frank Delfino (Charlie Weber) and Bonnie Winterbottom ("Gilmore Girls" alum Liza Weil), an associate attorney. Mysteries arise that test everyone's limits and reveal dark truths.

asngdjsadg like, it's a mess but (to me) an entertaining mess?? would not keep watching if it weren't for annalise keating/viola davis, its politics, and my ongoing hope annalise and bonnie will bang.

orange is the new black 🇺🇸 (2013-now) ▶️ ❤️
Piper Chapman is a public relations executive with a career and a fiance when her past suddenly catches up to her. In her mid-30s she is sentenced to spend time in a minimum-security women's prison in Connecticut for her association with a drug runner 10 years earlier. This Netflix original series is based on the book of the same title. Forced to trade power suits for prison orange, Chapman makes her way through the corrections system and adjusts to life behind bars, making friends with the many eccentric, unusual and unexpected people she meets.

IDK, it's mostly out of habit at this point, lol? to be fair, i did enjoy discussing plot points with a friend. (and maybe s6 was better than s5?? idk [2] i'm confused.) but, um, yeah, i'll be wary of jenji kohan shows in the future.

parenthood 🇺🇸 (2010-2015) 🔁 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
The four grown Braverman siblings -- Adam, Sarah, Crosby and Julia -- share the joys, heartaches and headaches of parenthood in their California hometown. As their parents deal with life and marital issues, the four lean on one another while tackling the challenges of modern family life in an updated reimagining of the 1989 film by the same name.

a super imperfect show that is super comforting to me, even as i'm not someone who's sentimental about Big Loving Family situations irl. it just does Moments and makes me cry so well, lol. it was my first time rewatching since it finished airing, and i felt much fonder and much less frustrated with various characters this time around. also the cast makes me happy.

please like me 🇦🇺 (2013-2016) 🔀 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ½
Twentysomething Josh is going through a number of big changes as he navigates his first decade of adulthood. After being dumped by his girlfriend, he comes to the realization that he is gay. After that shocker, he moves back into the family home to help care for his mother, who has previously attempted suicide. He later moves out and into a house with best friend Tom. With his life in disarray, big challenges await Josh in his immediate future, which are especially hard for someone like him, who with a natural aversion to drama and emotion. So he deals with it all -- only in his own awkward, self-centered way.

i sort of find it hard to liken this to anything else?? nothing really Happens - it focuses on people, in a honest, kind, sometimes unflattering, human way, and at the same time it's very stylistically pleasing. (example: opening sequences for s1.) josh (thomas) is also utterly charming to me, and watching vids of the cast is hilarious because the characters of josh and tom actually are the actors and rl friends josh and tom. the show has really stayed with me.

pose 🇺🇸 (2018-now) 🔀 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Set in the 1980s, "Pose" is a dance musical that explores the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York: the ball culture world, the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe, and the downtown social and literary scene. Blanca forms a "house," a self-selected family that provides support to LGBTQ youth who have been rejected by their birth families. Damon is a dancer who joins Blanca's house. Together, they compete in the balls -- where house members challenge each other in various categories and are judged on their outfits, attitude, or dance skills -- against Blanca's former house mother, Elektra. Pray Tell is Godfather to the children who compete in the balls. Angel is a streetwalker who develops feelings for a new client, Stan, who has a loving wife, Patty. James Van Der Beek co-stars as Stan's boss, Matt.

speaking of being wary of showrunners!!!! i'm nervous because ryan murphy, BUT he isn't the only one in charge, i really enjoyed s1, and my excitement to see trans women of color in lead roles overrides any potential reservations i might have. it's not super complex in plot, but it is so heartwarming to me. (i would sort of describe it as a queer fairytale? though not in being all roses and sunshine, it is the US of the 80s, lol.)

six feet under 🇺🇸 (2001-2005) 🔁 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Laced with irony and dark situational humor, the show approaches the subject of death through the eyes of the Fisher family, who owns and operates a funeral home in Los Angeles. Peter Krause stars as Nate, who reluctantly becomes a partner in the funeral home after his father's death.

ONLY MY HEART AND SOUL. ... lol, what can i say, if you've known me for a while you probably know i swear by this show, and this was only one of many rewatches. [insert to me u are perfect gif]

/끝 (expect said music post soon and maybe a f-locked random shit post, too, lol.)

p.s. shoutout to the good place browser extension for making the above sentence look like
