Thought of the day!
Wear your learning, like your watch, in a private pocket, and do not pull it out and strike it merely to show you have one. If you are asked what o'clock it is, tell it, but do not proclaim it hourly and unasked, like the watchman. -Lord Chesterfield, statesman and writer (1694-1773)
Assuming that what you have is learning in the first place. And assuming you keep your watch in a pocket.....which I don't, but that is irrelevant :)
Anyway, after nearly 2 months of anticipation, my copy of Eating Animals has finally arrived!! This was after I sent an email inquiring about its whereabouts and was informed that it had probably been lost in the mail. They ended up sending a new copy, though it's actually a little different to the one I ordered- which should have been a paperback from the states. This one's a cloth-bound (?) hardcover airmailed from the UK, but whatever. The good thing about these big website company things is that at the end of the day they really care about reputation so their minute loss made from sending me another copy far pales in comparison to the possible havoc I or any other dissatisfied customer could wreak if left unhappy. Though I'm not that big a fan of deregulation per se, you have to admit that it is true that market incentives and mechanisms are pretty effective. It's actually quite cool. (See Lynn! You're not the only one with triangles on your agenda :P)
Swotvac has been going well in the sense that I am happy (late getups, French+Japanese news, leisurely lunch, reading, some exercise, websurfing- which despite my relative free-ness has not yet become boring! room for utilisation of 2am lucidity et cetera) but not so well in the sense that I haven't started studying. At all. I mean I guess reading the undercover economist and capitalism and freedom does sort of come in at the border, plus I have been watching the news exclusively in my languages of study, and paying particular attention to politics/economics-related news, so it's not that bad, I guess. Yesterday I worked and finished 100 puzzles on Unblock me (!!:D) and popped by monash, and I think that was really worth it because it was one of those reminders about how lucky I am to have friends who can just make me so damn happy. (to the extent of slight eccentricty, but who cares! :D)
