I really like learning French. Of course, I like the language itself- but that's nothing too spectacularly interesting, because there's hardly a language I don't like. What I really love is the fact that I can know absolutely nothing about it, make silly blunders and be no better than a tiny baby in terms of expectations of inherent ability or prior experience or knowledge, and be perfectly alright with that. Because I'm here to not know, to make mistakes, I'm here to learn. I have a book, a teacher, a class, a weekly cryptic email from the French club, a computer- and a whole new world to discover, from scratch.
And yet that world has always been there- It's so common-sense, but it also feels so magical.
