One can promise actions, but not feelings, for the latter are involuntary. He who promises to love forever or hate forever or be forever faithful to someone is promising something that is not in his power. -Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, philosopher (1844-1900)

(So maybe it was no one's fault.)
ANYWAY, today was a good day!
Believe it or not, I slept 6 hours on a non-school day. It's become a daily job of mine to sweep the back and front gardens in the mornings, and I was hoping to avoid as much as possible the heat that was forecasted for today. 34 degrees. Yuck.

I'm not really sure what's going on, because it's barely even summer, but one of the trees at the back is having a shed-fest and every single morning when I head out to sweep up the leaves it looks as though the garden's been abandoned for 20 odd years even though I just cleaned up the day before. I don't know if it's surprising, but the fact that I have to start all over again every single morning is one I actually don't mind too much at all. Saying every pore of my being enjoys the flies buzzing in my ears and the constant lookout for mosquitoes et cetera would be stretching the truth a little, but I do think that the time I spend listening to the sounds of brush on leaves on bricks- sometimes accompanied by distant strains of my neighbours singing to their grandchildren in Greek- has come to be quite an enjoyable, spend-worthy part of my day.

The heat today was horrible, and the walk to and from school was.. bleh. Especially since I had a blister on my heel that started bleeding halfway there. That was pretty gross. But apart from that, viola was fun and I noticed that there were all these little things that really made me quite happy. Bumping into Miss Scholes, the nice receptionist at the bursar's, the stuff I'm doing for viola, and then adventures at home! poaching an egg for lunch, the new cucumber that's growing out (and very cute) and.. oatmeal cookies! :)

Mmmm.. how can you resist a fresh baked&still warm, chewy, cinnamon-tinged and sososo tasty oatmeal raisin cookie?!

They were for my brother's school's festive fair or something, so I could make these things as actual cookies and not wanna-be-healthy-food which does get a bit irksome. And i must say, these were probably the best cookies I've ever made to date (then and again I am biased towards oatmeal), because I followed a good recipe using the RIGHT MEASUREMENTS and actually bothered to stir everything properly and added about 4 times the usual amount of butter.

holiday, thursday, food
