Translation: [1869] Untitled short story.

Oct 30, 2011 21:45

So I'm aware that I should be studying for exams, but I decided to procrastinate by translating a short story that I found on here.

EDIT: +Kreuz responded to my email and said that it was written as a gift to her by 柚木かろ, whose website is here.

It's translated using what little Japanese I know, basically. I apologize if it's not very accurate.
It's from Hibari's POV, if that wasn't clear.

“I want to see you.”

That was what I could hear Mukuro murmur into the phone from the other side.

“To say such a thing…”

I sighed and glanced at the clock in the room. The needle was pointing at 12 o’ clock. 12 o’ clock at night. Midnight.

“… But, I…”

“I understand.”

I understood what Mukuro wanted to say. Because of my mission, I had been away from Japan.

I had seen him a month ago.

“I want to see you, Kyouya…”

“.. Hm…”

I nodded at Mukuro’s words. While I was listening to his words, I held the phone in between my ear and shoulder and turned another page of the notebook that I had dedicated to the two of us in these past ten years.

This notebook was full of photographs of us.

“Hey, Kyouya..?”

“Nn…?”

I picked up a photo to have a closer look at it, while I returned to listening to him. This picture was of the two of us, Mukuro and me. It seemed that Mukuro had been smiling happily, while I  was laughing...

I thought that I wanted to see Mukuro too, after looking at that photo.

“Are you looking at those pictures now?”

“.. Wao.”

“Kufufu~ I’m right, aren’t I?”

“Nn.”

I could hear Mukuro chuckling. Perhaps he was looking at the same pictures.

“… Hey, Kyouya?”

“What is it?”

“Do you want to see me right now?”

I thought about his words for a little bit. Did I want to see him or not? I continued to think about it. Both options were probably the same for Mukuro, anyway. Why would Mukuro want to hear my answer?

“... It may be that you have to come and see me.”

That’s what I said.

“How typical of Kyouya.”

After hearing my words, I could hear him laughing quietly. But I could also hear what sounded faintly like a sandstorm in the background.. It sounded like ‘zazaza’. (sound effect)

“…?”

But… the sound stopped. I couldn’t hear anything at all.

“Mukuro?”

From the other side of the phone, I couldn’t hear anything, not even his laughter. I couldn’t hear his breathing.

“… Is it broken?”

The moment I pulled the phone away from my ear, I could hear a noise. (katsun.)
It wasn’t from the phone… It was from next to me. In the room.

“…”

There was no one next to me. But there had been a sound. I smirked faintly and reached out for my tonfa, ready to kick open the door to the other room. Holding the tonfa, I reached for the door--

“Kyouya!”

“!? Wa--”

Suddenly the door opened, and there was a body on top of mine.

“Kufufu~ I came.”

It was definitely Mukuro. The same as a month ago.. Mukuro.

“… An illusion?”

“Kufufu… That’s right. This is an illusion… But… I’m here now, for certain.”

“Wao.”

I wrapped my arms around Mukuro, and he returned the embrace. This was Mukuro’s figure, but even though I knew it was an illusion, it didn’t matter. Mukuro was here now.

“I wanted to see you.”

“Same here, Kyouya…”

We smiled at each other.

“You came to me as an illusion…”

“You wished to see me, so I came.”

“Is that so…”

“But… it’s not fair. Though I kept wanting to see Kyouya, you didn't feel the same way...”
(edit: THANK YOU ch1ps0h0y FOR HELPING ME OUT WITH THAT SECOND LINE. ♥)

Mukuro’s cheeks puffed out as he pouted. That picture made me smile slightly.

“That’s idiotic. Why did you think I wouldn’t want to see you?”

“Really?”

“I’m not lying.”

“Kufufu~”

Mukuro smiled and I kissed his cheek.

“I really wanted to see you, Kyouya.”

“Nn. Are you here for all of today?”

“Yes, this illusion will stay here.”

“Is that so.”

Mukuro’s words made me smile, and I embraced him and sat up.

“!? Eh…?”

“If that’s so, then why don’t we sleep together tonight.”

I laughed at how Mukuro’s face suddenly reddened. Still laughing, I carried him off to the bedroom.

“Kyouya--!!”

“Didn’t you come to see me?” I lay Mukuro down on the bed while saying so.

From Mr. Bad to Mr. Cute, huh?

But…

Thank you for coming to see me.

I missed you.
