The Rabid Rabbit - Entry #283 : Back in Texas

Yup. Went to San Diego with teh Jew to visit his family and celebrate Haunakkah.

We drove to my parents' house, because the tickets were hella cheaper if we flew from Houston than if we flew from Austin. And since we would have had a layover in Houston anyway, we opted to drive to my parents' house, that way we wouldn't have to pay 8 days' worth of airport parking. So, we drove there Christmas eve, and brought all the presents I had wrapped the day before. Because my dad had to work Christmas day (he WAS supposed to be off, but my dad is the only competent employer at that place, so he pretty much is *always* on call), we opened our presents that evening instead of Christmas morning. Tamir and I got all kinds of good stuff. He got Taiko Drum Master, Serenity, the Firefly box set, some candy, and...I dont remember if/what else. (I couldnt get him anything, becaue everything I wanted to get him that I could afford either he bought for himself or my family bought for him. ;_; ) I got some bath stuff (I *love* bath products) from my sister, La Plucell Tactics and Polarium from my older brother, Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai (AWESOME movie) from my dad, a Hello Kitty picture frame from my little brother, an extra set of Taiko drums from my grandma so that Tamir and I can play each other, and a glass meatloaf pan from my mom. Yes, I asked for a meatloaf pan for Christmas. When you cook as much as I do, kitchen accessories and culinary instruments make great gifts. Besides, I had been wanting a meatloaf pan for forever but the only ones I could find were steel, which, if anyone has any substantial knowledge of meatloaf, is CRAP. Glass is best. And then, from both of my parents to both Tamir and I, were two luxurious king-sized pillows for our bed. And DAMN, are those some orgasmic pillows.

The next day my brother drove us to the airport, and we caught the plane. Tamir was drugged, but all things considered the flight was very uneventful, except that we were fed a complimentary lunch and I watched the Johnny Depp version of Charlie and the Chocolate factory, sans sound becuase the airlines are sneaky and configure their sound system to play left and right sounds seperately. So, unless you have two headphones and are willing to plug one in each and hold them to your respective ears, you have to buy one of their sets for $5 bucks that has a seperate plug for the left and right ears. Stupid sneaky airlines. I'll show you! *shows them*

When we landed Tamir's mom picked us up, and we toured around San Diego a bit. It was pretty, nice and hilly, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too crowded for my taste. Most of the houses were big and beautiful, don't get me wrong, but from what I could see most of them didn't have any yard to speak of, and the houses were literally feet apart from each other. I mean, if I'm gonna have a house, I want it to be as little like an apartment as possible, ya know? And when I can look out my kitched window and wave a neighbor Bob as he takes a shit, I have a slight issue. XD

Tamir's old house was gorgeous though, and in a much more spaced-out subdivision. He had a backyard, and nice humongous kitchen. I freaking love huge kitchens. It's such a shame that his sisters and mom don't cook. That kitched deserves to be used three times a day! XD

We spent the majority of the vacation meeting old friends, trying new foods that Tamir grew up on (Roundtable Pizza was good. Still not Papa Johns, but definately a close contender), cooking for his family and friends, and stuffing our face silly at his dad's house. Then on New Year's Even we went to one of his old friend's house for a party, and I got drunk. Tamir says I was smashed, but I don't think I was that drunk. I mean yes, I was pretty drunk, but not to the extent I think he thinks I was, as I was never sick, and I didn't have a hangover in the morning. Slight headache, but nothing an asprin couldn't handle. I wasn't sick, or sensitive to light or sound, or anything like that. Then again I probably just have a Texan iron liver, as I don't know many people who can drink half a bottle of Whales followed by half a bottle of Parrot Bay by themselves.

For Haunakkah Tamir got a shirt, I got a pair of earrings, we got a picture frame, some hot cocoa and biscotti gift baskets, some money, and Tamir's mom gave me all the bath stuff she's gotten as gifts over the years, as she doesn't really use bath stuff. So I was happy.

The flight back, unlike the flight there, was pretty funny. Tamir had been not necissarily ill, just not-quite-well during the week, so he hadn't been eating or drinking on a very regular bases. Thus, when he took his pill he was already in a slightly weakened state. Thus, he was pretty funny on the plane. He stumbled a lot, and all the stewardesses were asking me if he was okay, so I explained his fear of flying and medication. He was in and out of it during most of the flight, and while nothing in particular happened that was funny, it was overall funny in a general way. Yay for unspecificity!

My brother picked us up, we went back to my parents' house and packed everything in Tamir's car, ate dinner (my dad made a brisket) and then we drove home around 9:30ish. Made really good time, as there was no traffic to speak of on the way back. We got home, I unpacked a bit, we watched some Bleach, then went to bed on our nice new pillows.

And that brings us to today. We just got done eating some delivered chinese, and after a bit I am going to go shopping while Tamir stays and rests and plays Animal Crossing.

:)
