Today...006

Today I saved a blue jay, at least I certainly hope I did.
I was on my way to school this morning and saw a blue jay close by (I have a tendency to stop and look at things when I walk, I guess I'm like a kid that way). I continued to walk a couple steps and my gaze lowered from the jay in the tree to one that had been caught on the fence. At first I thought it was dead, hanging upsidedown by one foot as it was, but then I saw it blink.
After considering the matter, I gently took hold of the jay on the fence with one hand, and began to try freeing its leg with the other. I'll never be sure just what it managed to do, but it seemed like it had taken grip of the chainlink and got its claws stuck. There was a small open wound on its other leg, and I assume that was from struggling before. I managed to get it free and set it on the ground, lightly petting it.
It never made a sound or struggled, nor did the other jay in the tree (who never left in all that time) scream at me or try to defend its poor mate. I'd like to think that they knew I was helping.
Still, I feel a little bad in that I just left the jay there on the ground. 'e didn't make any attempt to fly off or seem panicked, just sat there and kinda ruffled its feathers. Probably was in shock and exhausted. I just hope that it flew off on its own, and that no one came by to make matters worst.
I was tempted to take it with me, but that would have probably alarmed the mate and if it was just in shock, it'd be a pretty bad situation to have it try to fly around the classroom...
