“Do you trust me?”
Shoichi bites his tongue, but his outstretched hands do not tremble or fall. His gaze reamins steady, if not a touch nervous. Around them, the Millefiore base shook with barely contained tremors as it prepared to collapse into the ground and bury them all.
Spanner doesn’t answer.
In that long moment, Shoichi knows that Spanner is thinking about the past five years- working for the Millefiore, gambling on the possibility that Byakuran would never find out, the friendship that had slowly dwindled into passing glances in the video conferences and not even a word when they meet, face to face, on those rare occasions that Shoichi ventures into the lower decks.
Shoichi can’t blame him, but time was running out and he had no desire to be buried by Byakuran’s mad rubix cube.
“Spanner!” He snaps, and the blonde, still unfazed as ever, grasps his hand and looks at him, sliding his lollipop to the side to say, “I was thinking-- you’re too underfed to be able to catch me properly. Don’t ask for leaps of faith until you’ve got more muscle on you, Shoichi.”
It isn’t after they escape the base that Shoichi realizes that he has been insulted and he proceeds to yell Spanner’s ear off, except that he thinks Spanner is used to it.
