It is based on Chinese legend/mythology/a classical novel--it's kind of brilliant. My love of mythology is quite well-known, and it's one of the biggest reasons why I started watching Supernatural in the first place, so when authors bring myths/legends/vaguely historical goings-on into SPN fic, I get excited. When an author does it well, and does it in a twisty alternate universe way where Sam is a monk and Dean is a demon and they are on a mission from an androgynous goddess, but they are still them? Oh yes. Daddy like.
(And the Impala is made infinitely cooler [it IS possible] in a way I won't tell you about, because it was a wonderful surprise.)
