I listened to exactly one song today. It was the first and only song I consciously listened to until turning on woxy a few minutes ago. After only about 3 hours of sleep from celebrating the victory, I woke up and hit the highway for work. I cruised up over the hill, headed south on 75, between the Middletown and Monroe exits. The sun was just above the horizon, shining brightly and casting a blanket of warmth across Warren and Butler counties. I clicked on the radio to listen to my regular NPR programming like I have every day for the last two weeks. Instead of the relative calming tones of the Morning Edition anchors, there was a brief moment of silence. I looked down at the radio to make sure it was on and saw "CD Track 1" on the display. At that moment, the clacking of a rapid drumbeat followed by the thick controlled chaos of Bob Mould's guitar and voice pierced the cold air of my car. Husker Du's "New Day Rising" blared for the next 3 minutes. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect, totally random song to suddenly appear and make me want to scream along and well up with tears yet again.
I work with a bunch of Republicans, so I was totally trying to hide my emotions and excitement at work and not come across as gloating, although I'm sure you could tell I was glowing. I was in the bathroom at one point today. I was standing at the urinal, thinking about the landslide victory. I walked over to wash my hands and caught myself punching the air at the thought of it.
Yes we did.
