Wait 5 Minutes...

The temperature dropped yesterday and snow blew in all night long. This morning, there was a nice dusting of dry snow, not the wet slushy stuff. The streets were not plowed, but the wind was blowing pretty good and kept most of the snow off the roads for the most part. I threw my coat on and stepped outside to start the cars. I wasn't expecting it to be FIVE FREAKING DEGREES. Damn. I got the kids loaded in the car and headed to moms to drop them off. I'll be damned if I didn't get stuck on a sheet of ice going up the short hill to her house. I went a less vertically-challenging route around a couple of blocks, dropped them off and hit the highway for work. If I'd a known it would take me 90 minutes to go 17 miles at 15 MPH, I would've found an alternate way to work as well. All day, the temperature hovered around 20 degrees with a biting wind chill around 5. The ride home from work was rather uneventful, with blowing flurries, clean streets, and a recent but costly repaired heater in my car. I walked in the door at home, and it was freezing inside. The thermostat read 50 degrees. Poor Lucy (the beagle/jack russell/kangaroo dog, who is usually quite the spazz), sat in her cage shivering across from a vent not blowing any warm air her way, desperately wanting to go outside to pee. A quick tour of the house revealed some flashing clocks, indicating a power outage 2 hours prior. Apparently, it tripped the safety switch on the furnace. I immediately got it reset and blowing warm air again, then flipped the tube on to catch the weather for the next few days. Tomorrow, will be about the same. The weekend looks to be in the 40's. I can hack. By Monday, the 50's. Tuesday's high? 65 degrees. Are you fucking kidding me??
