dudes, i am really excited about my new album. i am just about finished recording 6 out of 11 songs, and i am super happy with how they sound. i don't always think every album i make is my best one yet (see: crack house, the history of fishes, modernity leave, real nights), but this time i do. this is going to be my best album yet!
i just have to finish up a few small things like doubling certain vocal parts and adding a couple guitar parts, then i'll have over half of the album wrapped up. then it's on to side B!
i'm considering adding a slightly reworked "
truth serum" to the running order though. out of all the digital 7" songs i did last fall, that's the only one i think is good enough to be on this album. i'd just add some real drums and guitar to it probably. it wouldn't be too different. what do you guys think?
i'm also really excited about finishing up spookies recordings. as is often the case with bands, it takes a while to finish just a handful of songs, but we're just about there. mayhaw just has to do vocals on a couple more songs and maren has to bass it up on "put me out" and then it's all done. we're planning on spreading these songs out across a couple releases: a split 7" single with the minders and a vinyl spookies EP. but don't worry; all will be available digitally as well! and i gotta admit, i've stolen quite a few recording techniques we used on the spookies songs for my new album. of course when i do it, it sounds totally different, but that's a good thing! after all,
imperial bedroom (which was produced my geoff emerick, who engineered most of the beatles' stuff from revolver on) doesn't sound like the beatles, but it's a freaking great album!
also, next saturday i'm doing another 7-11 gig with cody. 3 hours, $75. is it wrong that i was really excited when he asked me to do it? free coffee, pop, hot dogs...
it's good to be king of 7-11 for a few hours.
what's a shuttle?
