it's just another year to wait.

so i was sitting in my womb today, working on mixing a banana stand set and i get a call from nate at 5 asking where exactly ky's house was. and i said, "uhhh, were we practicing today?" and nate was awl, "uhh yeah." apparently there was a misunderstanding when nate emailed us last week saying jenny (our new bass player) couldn't make the practice we had today. that, and the way the email was worded, i assumed that meant practice was canceled. i mean, if you're missing a bass player, that's kind of a really good reason to cancel, because practices without bass usually suck. i generally don't like to practice if a band is missing ANY members, but definitely not everyone shares that view.

luckily, i wasn't doing anything super important and was able to get my keyboard and guitar packed up quickly. ky picked me up and all was fine. we practiced for a good three hours. ky already knew most of the songs pretty well, so that was great. we also learned three new songs that we'd never played before. i had recorded the demos of those songs with nate though, so at least we had those to go off of.

i'm not totally sure how i feel about playing with redcoat turncoat now. it started out being a fun one-off recording project, but now we're playing shows. i just don't know if i'm into the music enough to keep coming back to it time and time again, especially since the set (and the lineup) changes so much with every show. i really like nate's pop songs, but the super long shoegaze songs get pretty boring. case in point:

nate asked ky what he thought of one of the new super long shoegaze songs and ky, who generally speaks straightforwardly, said in a very nice way that it wasn't really his thing, but it's always good to play new styles. nate seemed somewhat taken aback by that response. i thought it was kind of funny because how many people are really into that 90s style shoegaze music like jesus & mary chain, luna, dandy warhols, etc? and myself being the natural peacekeeper, i backed up ky while still saying that i knew where nate was coming from. (btw, my tendency to do that drives alyssa mad because she wants me to not dither, but to me it is not dithering--i really do see the merits of both sides in many cases! typical INFP...) aside from that strange exchange, it was a fun practice. we'll have no problem at our show on april 15.

quite soon, camille will take some pugs photos for press purposes and possibly back cover purposes. can't wait! her shaky hands burgerville photos kicked ass.

what's a zodiac killer?
