yesterday and today: nate and i recorded five redcoat turncoat demos over here. new songs, fer the next album. nate is easy to record with; he pretty much knows exactly how the songs go and does vocals in one or two takes. i mean, they're not the tightest demos ever, but they're just demos. no pressure (over cappucino). cool songs too. gus came over today and hung out and added some backing vox on a couple songs.

i also started mixing in earnest the pugs album real nights today. there are still a few small vocal things to be recorded, but the album is 95%, which is enough to start mixing. i'm also mastering the album again this time, which is an added step that is not one i particularly like. that is the only step of the recording process that i really think is worth passing off to someone else, but i just shouldn't spend the money on it right now.

i think it was thursday that mayhaw came over and we worked up "put me out," which we started at ky's place on monday. the four-trackiness sounds great. there are only a few elements that were recorded on the four-track, the rest was recorded on my computer. so it's not lo-fi, but mid-fi. but the sound of the recording as a whole not only sounds great, but i think we've found a process that works. i think tracking the songs to four-track and finishing them on my computer is the way to go. more recording for mayhaw's album next week!

what's a toaster?
