what are parves?
today alyssa and i got up early (for us) and cleaned the entire kitchen, living room, cat closet and music room. we spent all afternoon on it. there was so much stuff to toss out, but we also filled a box with tons of stuff to give to goodwill. the kitchen table is completely cleared off for the first time in probably years. i cleaned areas of the kitchen that rarely ever get cleaned. like the front of the dishwasher. who ever thinks to clean that? but it gets gross. it's surprising. but yeah, i feel good having a cleaner living space. we didn't clean everything today, but we will do more soon.
in our dish towel drawer (which we had apparently forgotten about), there were some stupid carpet beetle larva husks on the bottommost towels. i'm so sick of dealing with those stupid things. ever since i've lived in apartments, i've had to deal with carpet beetles. i'm starting to think i take them with me when i move. the worst i ever had them was in spring 2006 at my NW studio apartment. for some reason, that particular year, they were fairly rampant. in fact, that's what my song "bugs" from applewine is about. i'm sure you've seen carpet beetles around yourself. they are common, and mostly harmless (although they're known to eat old clothes, kinda like moths). they're tiny little brown bugs with black spots on their backs. you probably wouldn't even notice them unless you're paranoid about bugs like i am.
after that, alyssa and i did some shopping for ingredients for BBQ sauce that we're making for our families for XMAS, which involved getting whiskey. i said, "a fifth is plenty, right?" and alyssa said, "no, get the big one!" so i got a 1.75 liter bottle of whiskey. alyssa waited for me in the car, and when i came back with a huge bottle she said, "whoa, i didn't mean that big!" and i said that it was the next size up from a fifth and she thought that a fifth was the pint size bottles and that the fifth was "the big one." oh well, looks like i have some whiskey to drink! i realized i haven't had any hard alcohol for months. crazy. it's pretty good calorie-wise too, compared to beer at least.
