Caterpiller Killer

Transformation of a metaphor
Change behind my eyes
Became butter and is better
But for me no longer flies.
Metamorphosis go on, be gone
I see straight through your lies
You are nothing new to me
Those wings but a disguise

By the tree I found you on my shirt
Just two weeks ago
Green fuzzy wuzzy wasn't cute
Upfront and honest though.
I didn't mind you crawling there
Perhaps you'd like to know
I simply couldn't keep you friend
On that leaf I made you go.

So then you went to change your look
In hopes I'd change my tune
Mind made up, no turning back
Crawled into that cocoon.
Emerged a winged creature
A beautiful buffoon
Caterpillar killer? No-
You'll feel the same quite soon.

Those wings will only hold you down
As you're flying through the air
All those people see not what's between
But at those wings they stare.
Thought you drew the short straw
Little larvae more than fair
So empty in that uniform
So full of life when bare.
