GDC Mega Post

So I know most of you are strictly livejournalers- livejournalists so this post is for you about my trip to the Game Developers Conference.

I left for orientation on Sunday which consisted of the rules explained again, but in powerpoint form and the stuffing of many swag bags for the beginning of the conference. Every conference associate I met was super friendly and they all deserved to be there the coolest thing is that many have been CA’s in the past as they like to bring back veterans but I’d say it was about half new people myself included and the rest pros. One of the neat things about going is that I was surrounded by like individuals again who were excited about the same stuff about the gaming industry that I am. Another thing was meeting kids (though I suppose I am an adult now) my age who are already in the industry working. I got good advice from them and the other conference attendees about getting into the industry (you know who you are, thanks ^_^). The best part about being a CA was that we got access to pretty much the whole conference we all carried a Giga Pass which was like 1,395 dollars … or something.

It also was a treat to sit next to fellow game designer Idols like Mr. Will Wright himself… Fuck no I didn’t stutter Will Wright is so interesting mostly because I’m getting into game design so it was awesome to sit by him at the Game Design challenge. I got a chance to talk to him before the mob started to descend. Its funny to me because if you saw these people on the street you would have no idea who they are, though I pretty much have my top 5 designers to stalk er… worship. Speaking of stalking .. unintentionally I might add I also got to meet Ketia Takahasi at the Game Design Challenge coincidentally I kept running into him at the same sessions that I went to. I got a chance to talk to him also and joke with him I made him laugh which made my day-month-lifetime as he is a very funny guy. I have my conference pass signed by him as well as a picture with him which I will post as soon as I get it from the kid who took it (I needs it, send it please!) because I always left my camera in my hotel room. I met a bunch of other people which would be too long to list here but they are all very entertaining.

I unfortunately had to work during the Nintendo keynote and missed out on the free copy of Brain-Age which was passed out as you left the conference Nintendo had a strict policy on handouts and I didn’t want to be a dick and get one because I was a CA. I later scored it at the final CA meeting as a prize and it sits on top of my printer awaiting my DS Lite which I will acquire soon as well as the other games I have listed above. I helped crowd control for Will Wrights keynote which wrapped around the entire building of the civic center then went to my next work shift so I ended up only catching the 1st part of Will Wright’s speech. Next year I will just work those sessions I had hope I wouldn’t be scheduled, but I have learned not to make the same mistake again. On the job front I went to the GDC with a ton of resumes and business cards and I left with no resumes and a ton of business cards from other people so that turnout was good. I have a few companies that expressed interest and for the time being I am playing either phone or email tag with them. Hopefully this lands me a solid job in the industry as I don’t think I can take much more living back at home except for my friends here. The plan though was to move out west in the summer with Jacob and Steph and tentatively that’s still on its better though if I land a job 1st then the whole plan is more stable. I really hope that this works out!

There is a lot more that went on at the conference this post merely serves as a highlight reel. Feel free to talk to me on IM or on the cellular device and I’ll be happy to share the rest.

That about sums it up I saved all the good information for you guys enjoy.. and btw lets hang out soon!
