Well that worked
It's not too bad what you can get Nextel to give you when you tell them that you're thiking about switching to Verizon. Espically if you've been with them a while and you're willing to sign a contract.
I was thinking about walking out of Briarwood with a Verizon phone tonight. Seriously. But after talking to the Verizon guy I figured I'd call Nextel and if there was anyone still there I'd see what they could do for me. And they didn't do too bad for me.
I've changed rate plans so I've only got 500 day minutes instead of 1000. I've been running right about 500 every month anyway and the other minutes were really just going to waste. They're giving me a 15% discount on that plan for the next year and giving me next month free. Woo hoo!
Yes, I've committed to being with Nextel/Sprint until next August. Next August I will visit this again and maybe I'll switch then, we'll see. For the time being I've lowered the cell phone bill about $20/month, I'm right down where I'd be with Verizon actually, and I've still got the two-way.
Now before the new car sucks all the money out of my life I'm going to go take a look at the phones on Nextel's web site and see if anything thrills me. Don't mind this phone but I should at least replace the wall charger and maybe even the car charger and that means making sure I can't get a phone I like better cheap first.
