I know I should be grateful he's willing to give us that, but... I'm so not excited about seeing my pie-hos only in comic book format. I'll read it anyway, of course, but there's just no way it's going to be as magical as the live action version was.

...That good comics sales could indicate good movie potential. Movies based off comic books are a lot easier sell than movies based off TV shows these days, after all. If Pushing Daisies's fanbase sticks with it despite the change of format--and if it draws in new fans in comic form--that'll say something to The Powers That Be.

As it stands, they have no evidence that PD fans will follow the series to a different medium, and that makes a movie risky business. Like it or not, a movie is a different beast, and if the box office failure of Serenity is any indication (while it opened pretty well, it didn't even make back its budget until after it was released on DVD), a cult following simply isn't enough to justify a feature-length film.

It sucks, but it's business. We have to prove that there's an audience willing to shell out for a movie, and buying the (theoretical) comic book will be a good start to that.

Bryan Fuller, creator of ABC's canceled fantasy series Pushing Daisies, gave SCI FI Wire a preview of the last three episodes and added that the story may continue in a comic-book series from Marvel.

The series, which charmed critics and fans alike, will also be showcased at the 2009 Paley Festival in Hollywood on Sunday.

We spoke exclusively with Fuller about Daisies' early demise and its continuing adventures. The following Q&A is an edited version of our interview. The show's final episodes will air on three consecutive Saturdays, starting May 30, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. It will land on DVD on July 21.

Initially, Pushing Daisies was this critically hailed, Emmy-nominated series with strong ratings. A year later, the series didn't even get a full season. What went wrong?

Fuller: The writers' strike is the big bully to blame for the plummeting ratings. There was a writers' strike in 1988, and television shows lost around 30 percent of their audiences. During
