New Line bought the remake rights to Battle Royale. It's been posted all over the Internet overnight, but this is the best site I've found so far.
It's exciting and disgusting news at the same time. If the remake is good, fans will have another film in the franchise to adore and talk about. If it sucks, well, all that anticipation will have been for nothing (which is how some people feel about Advent Children). One thing is for sure - if Freddie Prinze Jr. is in it, I'm going to fucking hang myself. :)
