Not an even an hour passed before Chansung high tailed it for Zelo's place, the only safe place he knew of for... this. The sickness was increasing and even worse the pain. It was like his insides were churning and let's not forget to mention the spike in his temperature. As he ran, brushing past people, not even pausing to apologize for possibly knocking them over, he pulled out his cell phone and dialled Zelo's number. There was no waiting for an answer, and in all his panic, Can began to speak quickly the moment the phone was no longer ringing. "I can't.. Going to your place.. It hurts so much...!"
The moment the call came, Zelo quickly excused himself from the meeting. Picking up the call, he cursed. "Ok, I'll be there as soon as I can. Hang on tight all right." He pulled the phone away for a moment to tell one of his colleagues about an emergency, running immediately to the lift. "It'll be ok, alright? Don't panic. It'll be fine."
He chanted the words in his head. It would be okay. Calm down. Breathe. But then his stomache gave a violent lurch which stopped him where he stood. He was only a few precious yards from Zelo's and he wasn't even sure he'd be able to make it there. It's okay. Everything would be fine. He had to not only hear the words but believe them. "Okay.. Okay.. I'm... I'll be okay," he hissed through gritted teeth and pushed onward, practically dragging himself to his destination.
Zelo had just stolen someone's cab, ignoring the cursing thrown at him. At least the taxi driver had seen the deep worry in Zelo's eyes and had the sense not to ask questions and just started driving the moment Zelo said his destination. Biting his lip, he held the phone up to his ear again. "Chansung are you still there?"
"I'm here.." his words were labored, breath quickened even though he tried to calm himself. He wasn't angry or anxious, he was terrified and he just had the energy to lean against Zelo's front door. "I'm.. Yeah I'm.." A growl issued in the back of his throat, deeper than before, certainly more animalistic and hearing such a thing coming from his own body... "..shit.."
Zelo heard the growl as well and cursed under his breath. "Are you inside the house? If you aren't, get inside now. I'm just 5 minutes away alright!" Zelo pulled the phone away from his ear to yell at the taxi driver to drive faster in Cantonese.
Chansung nodded as if Zelo could actually see the motion and picked himself up enough to put the key into the lock and though it took a desperately long time in his opinion, he'd managed to slump inside the house and close the door behind him. He didn't have energy for much else and it was if his inner beast knew it. An even sharper pain took hold of him, like his bones were breaking, his inners shifting.
"Chansung?" Zelo asked but didn't get an answer. Gritting his teeth, he heaved a sigh of relief when the taxi finally reached his apartment block. Throwing a big note into the seat and yelling at the taxi driver to keep the change, Zelo shot out of the cab and took to the stairs (the lift would be too slow). Finally only he was outside the door, that he slowed. Pressing his ear against the door, he called out. "Chansung?"
Chansung whimpered, yes whimpered at the sound of Zelo's voice, the process of shifting leaving him unable to do much else. He hadn't realized the shift would be so drawn out, or perhaps it was because it was the first time his body was going through such an ordeal. He could feel the difference, the changes happening within and around him and after a long while, the breaking and moving had stopped and a still had settled over the now wolf, though the whimpering continued while the pain slowly ebbed away.
Zelo could hear the whimpering and wisely didn't go into the place while it was happening. He waited for a long, long while before he finally knocked gently on the door. "Chansung? I'm coming in?" And he gently opened the door just a crack.
Zelo's voice, the creaking door as it opened, all of it was amplified in Chansung's ears and his tail immediately tucked under his brown, furry body and he quickly stepped back, ears flattenin anxiously. He crouched low as he watched the opening door. Chansung, human Chansung knew that it was Zelo, but in the back of his mind, he was still suspicious, still wary of just about everything around him. A low growl escaped him and he bared his teeth.
Zelo heard the growl, but he didn't pause, only very calmly and slowly opened the door. No sudden movments were made as he stepped in, closing the door gently behind him. Then, he kneeled down and opened up his arms, throat barred, and let out a soft whimpering sound that even after a thousand years, had no problem making. It was a noise that he'd heard the pack mother utter many many times, to other pups and to him even. It was a sound of comfort, to tell an agonized wolf that everything was ok now.
The growl resumed for a long moment and even when Chan had fallen silent, he remained ready to strike, but why? This was Zelo. Slowly, very slowly, that tail untucked from beneath his new body and unsteadily stood on those four legs, his gaze never once leaving the other. Finally he began to sniff the air, mainly in Zelo's direction and cautiously stepped forward, though such a thing to several minutes more was he would stop, draw back and start the whole process over once again. Finally, Chan had drawn close enough to sniff the other, circling him as he made his slow inspection.
Zelo didn't move, breathing slowly and evenly, letting Chansung do his inspection. This was the critical part. If Chansung assessed him as a threat, he would attack Zelo.
There were a couple of instances when Chansung growled, but after circling the other in a thrice and he stood before the other, his ears finally relaxing. The other posed no threat to him and if listening to the human side was correct, Zelo could help him. Still watching the man, the brown wolf finally sat down before him, though his posture remained upright, chest pressed forward, making himself appear as large as possible just in case the other got any ideas.
Zelo let out a slow breath, and he slowly put his hands down. Thinking of his next move, he decided to adopt a similar posture to Chansung, lying on the ground, only striving to appear as small and harmless as possible.
This seemed to please Chansung and he drew closer once ago, sniffing at the other as if he owned him before gently nudging his face with his muzzle then licking him. He released a short barking sound and finally that tail of his began to wag, however slowly, stilling every now and then as if he were fighting his decision to trust Zelo.
Zelo smiled a little. He still had it apparently. Licking his lips, Zelo made a soft whining noise as if inviting Chansung to lie down with him.
Chan continued to nudge at the other's face for a moment longer before practically collapsing ontop of him, nothing more than big hot cuddly mass of fur for the time being. Another bark and he was up again, jumping in front of the other and appearing to be in some sort of wolf yoga stretching pose, front paws outstretched in front of him, back legs fully extended, tail wagging expectantly. He barked once again.
Zelo let out a small 'oof' when Chansung collapsed on top of him. Gosh, this wolf was heavy. The weight lifted a moment later and Zelo blinked. He sat up at the expectant bark, hands placed in front of his, tilting his head curiously to ask what Chansung wanted.
Chansung barked again and literally hopped back from him before bouncing back toward him. His tail continued to wag and he hopped once again. Grown wolf though he may be, it was his first time, this was all new and the first instinct, other than to eat, was to play, test the limits of this form through the art of play.
Zelo sighed. So Chansung wanted to play. He was still in his work outfit and this might get messy. Oh well, he'd rather get his shirt ruined by wolf fur and maybe a few small tears than gorges and blood. Making a small whine to show that he meant no harm, Zelo crawled in front of Chansung, Zelo slowly wrapped his arms around Chansung's body, nuzzling his nose into the fur of Chansung's head. And then, pushing, he began to wrestle against Chansung's body.
Chansung was unprepared for the pounce and managed to be tackled. He scrambled beneath the other, barking and kicking his hind legs out to create more distance between them. Finally he managed push the other with his rather massive head and perhaps none too gently in all the excitement.
"Oof," Zelo felt the air get jabbed out of his stomach at the push, by somehow despite all fo Chansung's efforts managed to hold on, and he began to try to find Chansung's ticklish spot, jabbing around under the large expense of fur.
When that didn't work, Chan continued to thrash about, attempting to work his way to freedom but then a particularly sensative area was hit, earning a surprise bark from the wolf. His movements became even more frantic until he dropped and rolled over to his back, attempting to get the other off of him.
"Gotcha." Zelo continued to fight to hang on, and he continued to jab at the spot, tickling it mercilessly.
Chan continued to wiggle in Zelo's grasp until his panting was heavier than it normally would have been. Exhaustion from the struggle finally beginning to claim him. Finally, he began to settle down, though every now and then knocking his head against Zelo's in a companionable headbutt.
Finally, Chansung began to settle down, and Zelo winced with every headbutt. Damn, Chansung's head was hard. Once he was sure the wolf wouldn't get up, he let go of the other, wincing at the aches beginning to make themselves known. He'd be ok by tomorrow but heavens, he'd ache badly tonight.
Once Zelo stood to his full height, or well, mostly full considering that standing uprght might hurt, Chansung rolled over, presenting the victor with his belly. Clearly a loss meant a belly scratch for Chansung. Oh yeah, he was very much in the pup mentality.
"Oh geez." Zelo rolled his eyes, but grudgingly got to his knees again and gave Chansung the belly scratch he wanted. "Alright. Time to change back alright?"
This caused Chan to sit up and tilt his head to one side as if asking 'why' or 'how'. His tail stilled and he watched Zelo intently, waiting for some sort of demonstration or other.
Huh. That was a good question. Zelo had never done so personally and only had second hand accounts to rely on. "Uh... huh. Well, other shifters usually describe it as just grabbing back onto their human side."
Chansung stared at Zelo a moment longer before glancing down at himself. Had it worked? A small whimper escaped and he looked back at Zelo for more instruction.
Ok... uh. "Maybe you need to focus more. Close your eyes?"
Chan sneezed, but then focused on Zelo. The closing of the eyes would not happen. That split second was probably the most the other was gonna get out of him in the eye closing department.
Ok... this would take a while. Grabbing a few pillows off his couch Zelo gingerly sat back on the ground. "Alright... let's try this..."
It was going to be a long day.
---
Chansung curled up a little more, shifting slightly when he'd felt something against his skin. Wait. Chansung's eyes shot open and he blinked several times before taking in his surroundings and situation.
Curled up next to him was Zelo, which caused the man to blink once again. He'd... shifted back in his sleep? His brows furrowed in confusion, but he remained as silent as he could, not wanting to wake the other... especially as he realized his nude state.
But the movement woke Zelo who had never been a heavy sleeper. Groaning, he pushed himself up, blinking blearily at Chansung. "Oh good. You finally shifted back." He wasn't the least bothered by Chansung's nudity. "Geez, you sure are muscular. No wonder you were so huge in wolf form argh."
Chansung stumbled at Zelo's awakening and made a fail attempt to cover himself up, at least a little bit. "Uhm.. Right." He cleared his throat as he carefully stood up, bringing a pillow with him to remain at least somewhat covered. "I shifted... and you're not injured." He seemed to just realize this and he grinned brightly. "I didn't hurt you!" Then he frowned, remembering that immortality bit. "...did I?"
"You don't remember huh?" Zelo chuckled, sighing. "We'll have to work on that. And no you didn't harm me, other than giving me sore muscles from wrestling which is good. You seemed rather tame. But then again, I know how to act with wolf mannerisms so I'm not sure how much your control will be with other people."
"I remember some things... Like..." He puffed out his cheeks as he thought and gazed off into the distance as if trying to catch a forgotten dream. "Uhm.. I remember a lot of fur..?" He really could have pulled that one right out of his ass. "Well.. I mean.. I don't remember much, but I remember you.. I mean I remembered you.. Like, while I was a wolf. I knew who you were..?"
Zelo's face lit up. "That's a good sign. Means that you must have some control of your human side while you were shifted."
"Uhm.. Yay?" He did a half hearted fist pump into the air, his expression still uncertain. "I guess I should... clothes.." He glanced down at himself then to the shredded clothing near the front door. He frowned. "I'm really sorry about that, Zelo.. I'll pay you back as soon as I find a job. Promise.
"
Zelo waved his hand, shaking his head."They were old things anyway. I expected you to go through quite a bit of clothing before you get control anyway. I'll go by the market and get you some cheap t-shirts later."
"Ah, thank you.." He shifted a little bit before bowing awkwardly. "I think, if you don't mind.. I'd like to take a shower? I just... I feel weird." Perhaps a shower would make him feel normal, but he already knew that wasn't the case.
"Weird?" Zelo frowned. "What do you mean?" He'd normally leave things alone but with a new shifter it was better to be safe than sorry.
Chansung shrugged uncertainly and glanced down at the floor. "It's like.. Like I'm in a different body, I mean, I am, but, it doesn't feel like the one I've been in for the past 21 years or whatever," he mumbled in a low voice, for fear of sounding stupid. "I don't know, I think.. I'll feel better after a shower." He turned around to head for the bathroom.
"Hey." Zelo moved to Chansung's side, catching the other's arm gently. "In a way you're right. It's ok to feel out of sorts, alright. Think of it as... a second puberty."
At calling it second puberty, Chansung's expression dropped and his face lost all color. "You telling me I'm like.. some sort of teen wolf?" He shook his head and groaned. "I'm not gonna... like.." He didn't even want to think of sex at the moment. It was just too early for any of this. Chan shook his head and carefully pulled from Zelo's grasp. "I should shower. Thanks for everything."
"No, I meant-" Zelo cut his words off. Well, he meant the part about puberty making you feel like your body wasn't your own. But it was true that Chansung might start feeling the effects of an increased sex drive at certain times. "Uh."
Chansung pulled away once again and again, bowed. "Thank you again, Zelo. I really appreciate all this." Right now, all he wanted was the spray of hot water against him and time to think about what all of this would mean. "I won't be too long."
"Take your time." Zelo said softly, watching him go. The immortal sighed. Oh well. They'd deal eith everything else when it came.
Walking to get his phone, Zelo began the process of placating his boss.
