what else is new, what could I do?

So, last night my laptop got stolen along with nearly all of my money.
Bastard walked right into my room while I was sleeping, and I feel stupid for not waking up. The floor squeaks here! it was one of the first things I noticed about this place.

But I'm ok. Once the shock and panic wore off, that is. I'm kind of proud of myself that things I value most don't actually have value to anyone else, or at least to anyone who doesn't know me. I'd be crushed without my CD's and journals. And the thief was kind enough to not see my digital camera. He also left my external hard drive, and my credit card and ID cards. We think he was an amateur who was coming in to grab what he could; there's been talk of growing unemployment (though you'd never see it on the news), and what if he has a family to feed? I feel better if he has a family to feed. My aunt says he prolly won't get much money for my laptop, because everything on there's in english. So good luck with my laptop; maybe he can get the mouse to work.

I was watching an old kungfu movie today and I realized that I really miss those smarmy fight scenes from the 80's where people always get thrown off of indoor wooden balconies into potato sacks below. The latticework of the balcony invariably breaks off during the melee and beans someone. There should be a revival of people being thrown through glass windows into or out of offices, followed by shots of them groaning and rolling around the broken glass in mock pain. Henchmen should get thrown into neatly stacked piles of empty cardboard boxes and large plastic barrels, or handfuls of timber leaned up against the wall. Everything should spray outwards like bowling pins and make a big warehouse-sized mess. There should also be random shots of people falling down the stairs, laying spread eagled on the ground, trying to pick themselves up, and then falling back in a faint.
To champion the comeback of retro fight scenes, I think it would be awesome if someone made a video game out of the A-Team, where you'd have to build a sooped-up vehicle to fight the boss at the end. There'd be a montage of "teamwork" while things gets welded together, and then scenes of the vehicle springing into action - say breaking through a gate, or a driving through a chain link fence.
This, in my humble opinion, would kick ass.

Also, I saw a brief news journal report on Christian Tibetans. CHRISTIAN TIBETANS!
High up in the mountains, there's a church that structurally looks like a textbook example of a romanesque cathedral (!!!) with tibetan tile designs on the capitals. People gather and sing with rosary beads. All the women wore bright pink-red head wraps with one end trailing, like those stodgy patricians in pre-renaissance paintings. My hat's off to those crazy jesuits.

Just goes to show there's always something new and beautiful to discover about the world.
