[If asked, Mikage would say he only brought his device around in case something happened to Teito and he had to speed back. He already realized that the curses were rather capricious, and he didn't want to risk anything happening while he was gone.
Of course, now that he's returning from a trip to the store with a bag full of ornaments (apparently, when getting a tree to decorate it, they didn't realize that such things were necessary) and something that's uncovered in his hand. Helpfully, the camera zooms in to reveal that it's porn. Two different types, even-normal, good ol' girl on guy action, as well as two guys together. Better to cover his bases, right?
Just in case his buddy is sleeping when he gets to the room, he knocks and says:]
Oi, Teito! I'm back!
[Before opening the door and stepping inside. It is then the transmission cuts off.]
