It is yet another dreary day at the public defenders office. On the table today: 1) Continuance motions in death penalty cases and 2) Post release alternative sentencing for sex offenders - specifically how one would violate the conditions of their release. Yes, that should be a jolly good time.
On a lighter note, I am reading the book by Mary Roach called STIFF: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers. Its not a bad read. A bit on the wry side of humor mixed with startling anatomy lessons that may make you lose your lunch. I recommend it for those of you who are curious about what happens to 200 pounds of meat.
Thought to ponder for the day: Why don't grand juries decide which capital crime is going to be death eligible? Why is it that the district attorney gets to decide for the people who may face the ultimate penalty? Is it not against the idea of the sentence of death for one person to discriminate on whim?
