I've been reading your comments from electiondebate and I became nosy and took a gander at your personal journal. It says you have a military intelligence background which peaked my interest. I've been hired as an Imagery Intelligence Analyst by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (formerly NIMA) and I start within the next year. I just thought it was neat to see someone else with an intel interest.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

My intelligence background is much different than yours, I'm afraid. Yours seems to be in the field of electronics. Mine is in the field of human interaction. My MOS was 97B in the Army, which is Counterintelligence. Recruiting sources and talking to the locals to gather intel was my game. I am interested in your work, though. Since it has been a while since you posted this message, how are you liking the work?

I haven't taken it yet. The thought of moving to Northern Virginia keeps delaying my acceptance. My work will be analysis of geospatial intelligence, spy plane photography, and satellite photography. A lot of 3-D spatial imagery and such. NGA makes a lot of maps, takes a lot of pictures, stuff like that.

Your work in counterintelligence sounds somewhat like what I hope to do eventually. I'm working on, assuming I do actually bite it and move to NOVA, doing 2 years of intel work for NGA and then moving to the counterterrorism or counterespionage unit(s) for the FBI. Such lofty goals, I know.

Sounds interesting. Do you have military experience or just electronic imaging training? I do know that they are looking for experienced, highly competent individuals for HUMINT right now. If you can, you should check it out ASAP. If you ever want to talk shop, just let me know.

Neither. I'm a poli sci graduate. They pick people with majors like mine because that kind of curriculum specializes in analysis of information. It would be great if I could get into HUMINT eventually, at least people know what that is!

I've always been interested in political science as a degree. Tell me, how did you like studying the required courses? Does it focus a lot on history? I definitely like analysis, but I really enjoy research. My education is primarily military, security, intelligence, and computer related, but I am fascinated by politics. Did you spend much time on modern political party structures ( ... )

I really enjoyed poli sci. The required courses were enjoyable--US Gov, Comparitive Gov, Research methods, and Political Theory. After that, my course selection was mainly Constitutional Law, Public Opinion, and stuff like that. I had a lot of history because it was one of my majors. At Virginia Tech, political science majors have to pick another liberal arts field in which to take another 12 hours. I chose history, obviously, b/c it basically gives you the minor by default. You'll find a lot of places have military history classes, national security classes (that class was taught by a very difficult and openly biased professor so I passed on it), and believe me, you'd have no problems finding a computer class that interests you. None of the required classes focus on history (at VT anyway), with the exception of maybe political theory but really only b/c it's old philosophy, not so much history. If you're interested in it, I'd highly recommend seeking a poli sci degree b/c there is such a wide range of classes that can be ( ... )
