"I promise I would tell you if I knew," Ted replies cheerfully and gives her a wave. "As it is, I don't know you, so I can't really tell you even if they were here. Which I doubt, considering I've met pretty much everyone who is here."
"I'm Ted Kord, and you're amazingly gorgeous." This is an attempt at a charming smile. Sure, it's a goofy one, but hey, she's gorgeous! May as well make the attempt.
"You said nothing of not knowing where this is. Only of not knowing where my husband and son are." She explains this slowly and carefully, her cool tone not altering. And she may put a special emphasis on the word 'husband'.
"Okay, well, I don't know where we are. Some creepy mansion with some even creepier lady in it. But I gotta say, it's a hell of a lot better than being dead." Ted nods and sticks his hands in his pockets, grinning cheerfully. Okay, so she has a husband. Off limits. Damn.
"Yeah. Though you probably aren't! I mean, I just -- remember being shot in the head, and then being here, so yeah. But there's a bunch of people here who I'm pretty sure are alive." And fictional, but does that matter?
There's a look of panic on her face now, and she doesn't even bother to hide it. She looks around again, as though even more desperate to see her husband or son, perhaps hiding somewhere.
"I-I would remember... I know the green... Lucius..." the pain in her voice as she speaks the name is most likely heart breaking. Unless Ted has no soul.
His face falls a little. He didn't mean to throw her off! Really. "I -- hey, no, it's okay! I'm sorry!" He steps towards her, trying to look reassuring. That's probably thrown off by the fact that he tends to babble when he gets nervous. Or flustered. Which he is.
"Sorry! I didn't mean to -- Agh. Okay. Backtracking." He takes a deep breath and puts on his Serious Superhero Voice. "As far as I know, I'm the only dead person here. The people I've met from my world can verify that, they're close friends of mine. Everyone else I've met is alive. Or at least they haven't told me they were dead. So there's not that much of a reason to worry. Sorry, again, if I freaked you out. I really didn't mean to."
Narcissa takes an automatic step backwards as he steps forward, clutching at the fabric of her robes at her chest, still panicked.
For a moment, she finds herself almost relieed Lucius isn't here to see that. Malfoys do not show weakness.
"What if they don't know they're d-dead? What if I..." Damn, a tear has escaped and is slowly trailing down her cheek. She feels it, but doesn't even bother wiping it away. "What will Draco do...?" If Ted has a brain he can figure out that Draco is that son she mentioned.
Nnngh. More failure! That's not helping the nervousness any, really. But he can do this, really. Done a lot harder things before.
"Don't cry," Ted says, still trying to be reassuring. "Please. It's okay. I'm sure your husband and son are fine." He pauses a minute. Maybe Babs could help -- I mean, if he's got a computer, surely she does too. And she's definitely better at finding people than he is. "Listen, if you don't believe me, I'm pretty sure my friend can help you out. She's amazing at finding people."
"Her name's Barbara. You'll probably meet her." He gives Narcissa an absent grin. "And with a computer, obviously. She's ...probably better than I am with them."
"A... what?" The panic over maybe abandoning her son and husband has left her quite lacking in her ability to hide whatever she's feeling, and she is very obviously confused.
