What, we can use these too?

Very well! It will be nice to have some kind of outlet for my thoughts. Were I to share them in confession, I do believe Father Abbot would have no choice but to put me out in the forest.

I miss Mariam, and I love my son more than life. Sometimes, however, I get lonely. All right, more often than sometimes. Hugh was company, and he loved me well, but we were both too bound by our stations, and he had a wife of his own.

Here, love triangles are too common. Two lovely young women (yes, Elphaba, you are lovely!) fight over the same young man, who has yet to show his face. One of my dearest friends here wishes to fight a rival for the affections of a certain soprano. I have myself offered him tea -- oh, don't look at me like that. I'm told that nowadays, many people have a taste for their own gender.

There is freedom here, and I enjoy it.

There is also love. For it will be love, dear Grantaire, never you worry. If your Julien rejects you, he is a fool. I've never known a more constant man in my life.

[drinks some of his Gargle Blaster] And I will remain, solidly here in the shadows, waiting for the next lonely stranger to happen along. All I can offer is friendship and an open heart.

Sometimes I regret having left Syria at all...
