This Is Why I Speak Out
There are some people that rail against the idea that there might be a culture of dismissive-ness about rape, or the use of rape to silence. The following anonymous comments left on my last article are a clear example of these attitudes, and why speaking out is necessary:

Rape doesn't cause some huge trauma that you faggots make it sound like it does. What causes the trauma is when idiots like you brainwash the public into thinking it does. "Oh god someone raped me oh god what will I do" fuck off. If you're raped, that's a goddamn complment. The fact that someone was willing to go to prison because they thought you were THAT attractive, holy dick thats like the greatest thing that anyone could do for you. Grow the fuck up and move on with your life. Propaganda like this article and shows like SVU only hold our society back you idiot. If you're raped, you get up the next day and move on with your life. The author would like the US public to think that rape should not even be a part of the social commentary that exists in contemporary life. Frankly, ignoring it or pretending like it doesn't happen, in any context, is worse than lampooning it. And rape jokes are hilarious.
This has to be some of the worst shit i have ever seen. Without rape the world would not be anywhere as well developed as it is today. Maybe if women learn to keep their mouths shut and not dress like fucking sluts maybe they wouldn't get raped? (Its a proven fact that 9/10 women who have been raped enjoyed it, but because society deems it wrong, they act like victims.
Oh my god... What the fuck is wrong with you people that you need to attack freedom of speech with all your might? This isn't that fucking offensive, and people need to realize that, RIGHT NOW. Fucking seriously, this is why I have no faith in humanity.
I'm not taking any of this to heart, mind, though I will admit the outright rage that I might be suggesting the PA duo's action were awful and triggering was a little surprising. Also the fact that a few commenter decided the best thing to tell a sexual assault victim was how it should happen again, in graphic threatening detail.
I'm not intimidated, but I am disappointed. It looks like an influx of trolls from somewhere, but the fact that people even think this sort of stuff is okay is actually exhibit A in why we need to work at inclusiveness and trying to do what we can to change our society at large and our gaming fandom in a more local sense.
