this goes out to
sarisafari who for some reason likes my icons. and who wondered how I made this particular one so...
TUTORIAL .02
>>>
ZERO
Or prepping the Cap. My way of doing it recently (which I learned from various other tutorials) is to duplicate the
original cap twice, set the first one to multiply then the second one to screen. If the cap is still dark (which this one was), I duplicate the screen layer again. Then create a new layer, stamp visible and set it to soft light. I find that stamping the lightened image first gives it better contrast. And then depending on the cap, if I find the colors too heavy (which again this was) I desaturate the soft light layer and end up with this:
Then I stamp the visible image again on a new layer and resize the canvas to 100x100 and start moving things around.
ONE
I decide to focus on just Arya so I center her on the icon and smudge away the background
TWO
Since the lower left corner is a little on the light side, I place a light blob there.
THREE
at this point, I pretty much know what I want to do which is use my favorite texture at the moment (by
hymnah at least she used to be)
>>>

I set the texture to soft light 100%. I wanted it to be redder so I duplicate the texture again (still soft light 100%)
FOUR
her features are now too dark so I make another light blob, set it to soft light 100% then mask away the areas I want to remain dark
FIVE
to make the color richer, I usually add a multiply layer of the base. So I rewind to step 2, stamp it to a new layer. Drag it on top and set it to multiply, 33%
SIX
but it's too dark and sad so I add a levels layer and play around a bit because I don't really know what I'm doing lol. I just knew I wanted to up the reds and yellows so I ended up with these values
RGB 0 0.92 255
RED 0 1.33 229
GREEN 0 1.15 255
BLUE 0 0.74 255
SEVEN
I'm almost happy with it so I up the saturation, +10
EIGHT
but then decide that I still want the colors and contrast to be a little bit more intense so I stamp the image into new layer and set it to color burn, 12%
NINE
and for the final touch, add a brightness/contrast layer both set to +7 and voila icon!

here easy peasy right? XD
