2009 recap.

Dec 15, 2009 09:49

Last year's version of this is here.

1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
I was on NPR; I suggested, researched, and independently managed a particular project at work; I wrote Fat Satan and read it in front of a whole bunch of people at Re/Dress; I read other shit I wrote from a book in front of a room of people in Boston too; I joined a gym; I helped move my husband's grandmother out of her home of 40-something years and into an assisted living facility (which I didn't get to do for my own grandmother, owing to distance); I recapped a horrible reality show for fatshionista.com.

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make resolutions, I make Vague Goals and/or Things Of Which To Increase My Awareness In a General Way. I did and I will.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not close, though my stepdad's sister (I guess that makes her my great-aunt, though she's only like a year older than I) did.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Our cat, Bea.

5. What countries did you visit?
Just the one I live in.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
An agent and a book to sell.

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
October 9, which was the day Bea died.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Being a panelist on an episode of On Point on NPR. I was absolutely terrified, but I pushed through it and got a ridiculous amount of positive feedback.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I failed to maintain a state of zenlike calm through a bunch of garbagey circumstances.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Anything bad?
Nope, nothing.

11. What were the best things you bought?
Gym membership, and I upgraded my old iPod and iPhone both.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My own: I did a lot of scary stuff this year and I'm proud of that.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The producers of More to Love.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Debt and cat maintenance, damn.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Mostly the press I did.

16. What song/s will always remind you of 2009?

Worrying.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With my folks in FL.

21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Yes, with Rufus the cat. Also my husband, but I say that every year.

22. How many one-night stands?
One of these years I'm going to change this question to "how many pairs of shoes" since THAT question would actually apply.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Sons of Anarchy, OMFG, if you are not watching this show you are sorely missing out.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Huh. I don't think so.

Persian Girls, easy.

I want to say Lady Gaga, except she's not a purely musical discovery.

A relaxing and pleasant holiday season.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Star Trek, totally.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
We went to the aquarium and then to dinner at the Chart House. I was 32.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Finishing the thing I promised myself I'd finish before the shit hit the fan. Yes, vague.

eShakti shill. Cardigan fairy.

34. What kept you sane?
My awesome husband, and my gym membership.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I don't do this, y'all, not really. If I'm being pressed to answer, my response from last year is still good: Richard Armitage.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Being really financially bummed.

37. Who did you miss?
Family, friends scattered far and wide.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Possibly my new coworker, who's made my work life a million times better.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009
Oh god, I don't even know. Eat lots of cake, for tomorrow they may take your cake away.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year
P-P-P-Poker face P-P-Poker face
